Project Summary
THE CONTEXT OF THE PROJECT:
Children who start school for the first time are really willing to do that.The school,which is the place of learning how to read and write is a place that everybody likes and is the beginning of a new adventure for sure.After some time passes,the students do not want to spend their time that much at school and desire to have holidays based on the child.They literally watch the time to pass and look forward to leaving school as soon as possible.What is our fault in this?Why have they stopped enjoying and it has become a duty?What is desired with this project is to make children have fun during their school time and make school a place that they will want to spend their time even though there are no classes.It is also aimed to make them gain the love to learn and spend time with their peers at school.Children’s having low grades and quitting school at an early age cause them not to attend the school,which is a well-known fact.Creating a healthy living space for students,which they should like, is our main objective,which will lead them have the wish to learn.Larson and Richard’s studies(1991)argue that children feel uninterested during 32%of the school time.This statement is followed by the studies of Götz,Frenzel and Pekrun(2007), which suggests that half of each lesson is boring for them. To give more examples,according to the studies of Robinson and Wasson, getting low grades,quitting or not attending school, depression and aggressiveness are the probable outcomes of high level of boredom at school.Half of the students who drop out of the school state that their main urge for doing this is because of boredom.It is found through Columbia University’s study dated 2003 that smoking,drinking alcohol and using drugs are the result of the boredom of young people in the U.S. and those kind of addiction tendencies are 50% higher in bored students compared to the ones who are not.The phases of the project,activities done will be always available on social networks.These will be available for all of the schools to examine and apply.The obtained materials will be available in printed form or electronically and can be used upon request any time.
OBJECTIVES OF OUR PROJECT:
Our main objective is to satisfy those needs and enhance the opinions of the students through this project.Protecting their well-being,making them feel welcomed,eliminating school drop-outs and thus seeing most of them as university students are intended.
NUMBER AND PROFILE OF PARTICIPANTS:
We are 5 schools from 5 countries ;Poland,Romania,Greece, Spain and Turkey.Our project participants have different levels.As a result of having some problems,we chose different levels of schools.Students,parents and school staff of the partner school will be participants.
DESCRIPTION OF ACTIVITIES:
During our project,we aim the mobility of 5 short-term student groups.19 learning-teaching activities will be planned.Main goals of these activities are learning new cultures and traditions,exchanging good practices,respecting others,developing their experiences.Meetings will be actively participated by teachers,students and parents.
METHODOLOGY:
Educational tools(surveys,educational discussions,lecture observations)will be shared in meetings. Learner-teacher activities;workshops, music, dance, competitions will be organized.
RESULTS AND IMPACT:
The desire to learn new things will be enhanced together with this positive cohesion.The grades of the students eventually will get better thanks to the increase in the interest for learning.We sincerely wish to make all schools apply for our project and benefit from it.For example;making school a secure and student-friendly place,encouraging them when they face difficulties in learning,raising more self-confident children,acquiring new techniques and attitudes within those contexts to help them get better grades, enhancing teachers’ occupational skills and the sources that they can benefit from for teaching in a more productive way and their skills in English,learning about the good practices of partners schools and thus creating an equal and socially integrated environment.The number of the students who feel left out for any reason will be reduced through the opportunities of developing relationships all around the world by making students interact with the other students thanks to the activities of common interests.In addition, the school attendance of the students will increase through this social cohesion and they will start to think of dropping out of school less,which will ensure decreasing the number of school drop-outs.
IN THE LONG TERM;
Much as it is 24 month-project, it will have lifelong effects.Our aim is to provide the students to use this motivation throughout their school years.Making them feel good at schools will ensure them build their future jobs, identity and life better.They will have a powerful relation network of partners.For future projects,this cooperation will be continued.
