Project Summary
Entrepreneurship, entrepreneurial skills and ability to carry out transnational cooperation are very important skills not only to future businessmen but all the people in Europe in today’s world. Entrepreneurial thinking and ability to do transnational cooperation are tools that should be found in every young person’s toolbox of knowledge. Even the new Finnish upper secondary school curriculum requires that schools work for these matters.
The three participating schools (in Finland, Spain and Poland) have very good practices in teaching basic entrepreneurial skills. However, in the globalized world they are in front of a new challenge; how to give the students best possible understanding of international business and international cooperation in business. These topics can be handled superficially in the classroom but in order to achieve a deeper view of the matter the students have to be able to experience the cooperation, see a real business abroad, hear the viewpoints of businessmen, who are doing the business transnationally and train the entrepreneurial vocabulary themselves.
This project answers to the needs that are stated e.g. in the new Finnish upper secondary curriculum but that are actually of global nature. The project will be pioneering the handling of these matters and develops and promotes valuable entrepreneur course material in order to enhance the quality of entrepreneur education. The material and the other results of the project will be in free disposal of the other schools. Therefore the project benefits both other schools in entrepreneur education and the participating schools even in the future.
The first main objective of this project is to develop and pilot a European course on international entrepreneurship and business to serve all participating schools. The topics covered are comparative aspect to executing business strategies in different countries, global and European operational environments for businesses, international marketing channels, cooperation and sustainable development.
The second main objective is to offer entrepreneurship-oriented students with a possibilities to improve their skills in international communication and networking. In addition to learning the tangible skills, they will experience their importance for doing business in first-hand.
The transnational cooperation between the schools opens a possibility on the one hand to deepen the contact between the partner schools and on the other hand to create new contacts between the schools and the Finnish, Spanish and Polish firms that are contributing the project.
This project is carried out transnationally because it aims to teach the students international cooperation and the many skills that it requires. Because all of the participating schools are entrepreneurship orientated, the schools, teachers and students learn from the other schools and students about the topics of the project. The transnational methodology of the project enables the partners to learn about the other participant country´s land-specific business policies and the country´s point of views to international business. Additionally it gives the students possibility to create new ways to learn about the course topics and to improve their English skills. Furthermore the project gives the teachers in both countries a possibility to create contact with the other schools (e.g. universities) in their surrounding area, and therefore also the other country´s teachers and students get to know the education supply in the other country. During the project the students will be encouraged to strive for international degree place in the future.
The duration of the project is two years. The first year is used for the transnational project meetings, in which the conditions of the cooperation are created and the content of the new course is formed. In the second half of the project the course is piloted partially on the spot during the three mobility periods and partially with communication tools. Every school chooses eight students to participate in the mobility periods, that last one week. One part of the course and the mobility periods is business cooperation in the form of company visits and the presentations held by local businessmen.
The impact of the project on the schools is a new course that can be used by every school specialized in business studies. The impact on the students is their improved ability to collaborate within international environments and to realize the possibilities to study abroad and build a successful international business outside the metropolitan area. The longer term benefit of the project is that every upper secondary school that are willing to develop its entrepreneur education can apply the tangible results of the project.
