Project Summary
Everybody knows that foreign languages are one of the most important parts of nowadays education. Policy makers, school authorities, teachers, parents and students all acknowlegde this truth. In most European countries learning of foreign languages starts at early age and continues through all stages of education, taking up several teaching hours a week for many years. And still, the results are not entirely what we would like them to be. Parents often complain about the quality of language education in public schools, and it is not rare for young people starting their professional career to realize the inadequacy of their language skills.
This project concentrates on improving the quality, efficiency and attractiveness of foreing languages education in six partner schools. We will work towards this goal through comprehensive exchange of good teaching practices, and effective collaboration of our students in a common project, copying a modern working environment and providing learning for future experience.
The best teachers are those who never stop learning, and there are few better ways of improving the professsional skills of educators than observing other teachers at work and giving and receving feedback and constructive criticism. For young teachers this is a unique chance to broaden their horizons and build their professional workshop. Older teachers can gain just as much; as we grow more experienced , we also tend to fall into routine and often stop developing. What’s more, every country has its own model of language education, while individual teachers have their strenghts and weaknesses. Observing and comparing different methods and techiques of teaching will work towards building an eclectic approach, making the process not only more effective, but also more inspiring and motivating for the students.
As the schools participating in the project are all located either in small towns or villages or in distant or disadvantaged suburbs of cities, the added value of the project will be providing students with the opportunity to use their foreign languade skills in international environment, often for the first time. While the main objective of the meetings in partner schools will be hightening the professional skills of participating teachers, the students of host schools will also greatly benefit by enhancing their cultural awareness through learning about the culture and languages of other countries in Europe. During the whole project students will be honing their English language skills, interacting with children from other countries through different collaborative and communicative activities using eTwinning platform.
