Project Summary
Gheorghe Bibescu Secondary School from Craiova wants to implement the ERASMUS+ partnership ”Foreign Languages: Yes! (F.L.Y.)” in order to develop and improve key language skills to create a favorable environment for learning and using foreign languages in order to overcome language barriers and to later use them in the context of lifelong learning. FLY will be run along two school years between 6 partners, all with great experience in managing European projects and with the same need in order to increase the quality of teaching, improve pupils’ results and reduce school dropout. We intend to contribute to a better inclusive education and training through the promotion of European values such as tolerance and respect, integration in diversity and multiculturality, equal opportunities for all.
We want to fully engage students with fewer opportunities in the planned activities in order to open new horizons for them and to motivate them to improve their school performances in order in integrate in social life and later on labor market.
We plan to organize two kind of activities: short-term joint staff training events and short-term exchanges of groups of pupils.
The target group for staff training events are 4 foreign languages teachers and school counselors/school.
In the LTTA in Italy participants will improve their knowledge on various educational systems and on the methodology of the taught foreign languages. Such sessions are an excellent opportunity to master the latest pedagogical practices in the field of reference, as well as to update differentiated treatment strategies for the pupils in disadvantaged environments in order to respond effectively to their specific learning needs.
In Lithuania they will experiment directly a variety of non-formal methods which can applied in the foreign language teaching-learning process and in the integration of pupils with fewer opportunities.
In Turkey they will make use of modern, interactive ICT tools in modern language lessons in order to motivate and increase students’ knowledge and skills.
In Portugal they will develop effective and efficient language strategies in the European Education Area. They will discover instruments for the recognition and validation of learning outcomes in a European project; a vision of FuturE+ regarding foreign languages and how to integrate multilingual skills in the context of lifelong learning.
Thanks to the joint training events, the managerial, linguistic, methodological and digital skills will forever improve the teachers’ professional and personal background. They will create a more modern, dynamic, professional environment within EU values. The innovative methods will definitely have long-term effects on the quality of the didactic act.
The planned exchanges of groups of pupils promote the use of innovative pedagogical methods for a more effective open education. Learning foreign languages through digital tools and non-formal methods can be closer to reality and more focused on concrete situations of life (savoir-faire).
The target group for these exchanges are 100 pupils/school (12-17 years old), out of which 40 pupils with fewer opportunities.
Combining physical mobility with virtual collaboration strengthens the link between foreign language teaching in school and everyday life. Learning cooperation on eTwinning platform can enable students to improve their language performance, to better understand local cultural and spiritual values in a united European community.
In Romania the beneficiaries will learn to value their national identity in the great European diversity, will establish friendship based on mutual respect of other cultures and traditions.
In Greece pupils will make the first edition of the foreign language school magazine: “We: FLY in Europe”, using digital tools and educational software and an illustrated dictionary.
The pupils participating in the exchanges will develop communication skills in foreign languages helping them overcome language barriers and to later use them in the context of lifelong learning. The sustainability consists in having increased their capacity to adapt and integrate into different social-cultural environments, become more independent and responsible EU citizens, improve transversal and social skills, critical thinking, create a cultural connection with students from other countries.
We will share the results on the Erasmus+ Results Platform and eTwinning. We want the teaching toolkit and the guide of good practices to become open educational resources. All products (the school magazine, the illustrated dictionary) will be made public for students to enter a plurilingual dialogue in a multicultural context.
All schools will increase their European dimension. They will enhance cross-border cooperation capacity and will trigger changes in modernization and international openness in order to ensure equal opportunities at European level regarding education and training.
