Project Summary
For centuries, schools have been structured as places for teaching. The challenge in 21st century is restructuring schools as learning places. In the last decade the skills students need in later work and life changed a lot. That’s why we have to change our education and teaching. We need a learning environment where students can learn in an active, engaging and different way. Schools are experimenting with new learning styles and methodologies. To get an open view on education, it’s important that schools can learn from each other. That’s why collaborative work between European schools is needed to change and innovate our teaching practices. Students will benefit from these changes and will be more motivated to learn and come to school.
With the project we want to strengthen teachers in new teaching methodologies where also technology can support learning. High quality teachers are the most important factor in a students’ education. We want to prepare students for the challenges of the future and work on the 21st century skills they need. By changing the teaching strategies the motivation both from students and teachers will increase. With the new methods, students will learn and find the necessary information by themselves. The teacher gets a new role as a guide in the learning process of the students. Students learn how to deal with a problem and can make the transfer to other situations in their later life.
During the project we have students meetings where the students will learn to know new teaching methods and we’ll ask them to reflect on this different way of learning. Teachers will exchange good practices and share lesson plans during the teachers meetings. They discuss the results of the evaluation and reflect on the strengths and the weaknesses of each teaching method for the different subjects. We share our lesson plans and results online to disseminate them with more schools and organisations in Europe.
Not only students and teachers are important participants in this project. We also want to involve the headmasters of the school. They have to support and facilitate changes in their schools. We are working together with partners outside our own schools because their contribution and good ideas can inspire us too.
This project has to be a start for a changing mindset about teaching in schools. It has to be the inspiration to work further on innovation and adapting teaching methods. We will share good practices with other schools to inspire them.
