Project Summary
1. CONTEXT
School is not just a building, it is a workplace for teachers as well as for students and it is their right to feel comfortable and to succeed in their workplace. Although society continuously imposes new requirements on schools, existing legislation is being improved and new legislation is being put in place to ensure child well-being, harassment, violence and discrimination still exist. All partner schools in this project are willing to spend their time and resources to cope with this problem and to reduce violence and harassment. We want to share experiences and good practices and analyze the common and different aspects in our prevention plans as well as the extent to which authorities are involved in this process and what they can do to help schools deal with such problems better.
2. GOALS
Our goals are:
1. To enable teachers to tackle the problem of harassment, violence and discrimination at institutional level
2. Develop a common strategy to prevent violence
3. Promote a culture of tolerance, mutual respect and care
4. Encourage the inclusion of disadvantaged pupils
5. Develop communication, interpersonal, intercultural skills of participants
6. Create an opportunity for peer learning
7. Promote free expression and creativity
3. PARTICIPANTS:
Our project has two target groups – on the one hand, these are teachers who are almost daily confronted with violence and harassment. They will exchange their own practices, share problems, analyze similar moments and differences to identify good practices and implement them in their schools. Obviously, the second target group is students who are often negative, and these are the attitudes we want to change. It is important at first that they understand the causes and consequences of violence and discrimination, and then accept tolerance, respect and acceptance of the other in order to create a welcoming environment in our schools.
We will organize 5 LTTAs with a total of 80 students and 48 teachers.
4. ACTIVITIES
C1 – Violence and Discrimination in Schools – General and Different Aspects (Short-Term Event for Joint Staff Training) – 16 Teachers
C2 – Say NO to Stereotypical Thinking (student exchange) – 24 students and 8 teachers
C3 – Say NO to Violence (student exchange) – 24 students and 8 teachers
C4 – Do NOT say NO to bullying (student exchange) – 24 students and 8 teachers
C5 – Say YES to Equality (student exchange) – 24 students and 8 teachers
5. RESULTS
Specific results – we will produce a detailed report on how to tackle violence and discrimination at school, which will follow the process step by step. We will issue student magazines, a calendar of the most important moments in the project, LTTA student works, a CD with photo stories, movies, video diaries, pictures, a website that will contain all the activities developed, information about the project and its objectives.
We also plan a number of results – we will raise the awareness about the concept of equality and its importance, thus aiming at our students to become more open to differences. They will also develop their communication skills in English, increase their tolerance and respect for others, their interpersonal competences and social skills as a result of working together in multinational teams and spending time in foster families. The project will lead to a reduction in the number of cases of harassment and violence, better intercultural awareness and improved working atmosphere.
The impact our schools will have because of their participation in the project is unquestionable. First of all, we believe that the number of incidents of violence amongst pupils will be reduced as a result of the project activities related to this topic. These activities aim to raise awareness, but also to positively affect the emotions of our students. We will continue to disseminate the results after each exchange so that they could reach as many students as possible, and so the impact of the project on their attitudes and behaviors will multiply and shift from participants to other students.
In the long run, teachers will be able to cope more successfully with these issues locally and will be able to carry out their initiatives in cooperation with the authorities.
In addition, teachers will be able to attend lessons during the LTTA, watch presentations about partner education systems, and engage in discussions with their foreign colleagues. Thus, they will be able to identify, adapt and implement the good practices in their own schools.
All partners will continue their cooperation after the project end date, celebrating important anti-discrimination dates in online projects.
