Project Summary

The SchoolWebRadio project also called SWR, is a cooperation and networking between European school organizations that describes our commitment to using creativity, innovation and artistic expression in a way that contributes to:
• Opposition to racism and fanaticism, shielding democratic nature of society, understanding social, ethnic, linguistic religious and cultural diversity, preventing students from adopting discriminatory attitudes, intolerant, bullying, social exclusion and generally contribute to the cultivation of a culture of peace, non-violence and social justice.
• Creating a healthy and sustainable community by raising awareness to take positive environmental action to protect nature and the planet Earth. Students are encouraged to better understand the world in which they live, realizing the complexity and the systemic nature of both sustainable development and environmental issues. We are determined to help protecting the planet from degradation, including through sustainable consumption and production, sustainably managing its natural resources and taking urgent action on climate change, so that it can support the needs of the present and future generations.

The SchoolWebRadio Project will take the form of an attractive and modern Web Radio with Portal aiming at making learning more challenging. It will be on air 24 hours 365 days a year with scheduled music and broadcasts. The production of the broadcasted programmes will be created by the school communities and within the limits of school procedures and will be based on volunteerism. It will serve educational and entertainment targets for students aged 13 to 18. The project aims in engaging students in activities/results/broadcasts that directly related with European values, so as to acquire necessary social and intercultural competencies, skills and abilities associated with citizenship, through the promotion of democratic values and fundamental rights, social inclusion and anti-discrimination, as well as active participation in society. Through the activities of the project we want to create socially balanced people, who dedicate themselves to persons or a purpose, people who take responsibilities, feel comfortable and show a positive attitude towards themselves and others. Their emotional world is an essential director and shaper of their personality after exercising great power and influence on their activities, strengthening the qualities that make them better completed persons.

The SchoolWebRadio project mainly aims to develop the above skills, into students, who could not perhaps be distinguished into a conventional intelligence test (cognitive intelligence). Our goal is to support our schools to tackle early school leaving (ESL) by offering alternative quality education, enabling success for all students, from the lowest to the highest end of the academic spectrum, including children with a migrant background who might face specific (e.g. linguistic) challenges. Disadvantaged students, even early leavers will find this very attractive and alluring. Taking into consideration that the radio as a medium helps students to express themselves and socialize, the Web Radio Portal will be designed friendlier for such target groups; The radio production broadcasts will be addressed to students without discriminations, while no strict assessment within the project is required; this explains the reason why it will be a successful method to motivate all students to learn. The project will show the ideas, the creations, the concerns of the school community and it will answer to the school community for a more dynamic and direct way of contact and education of children with the wider environment, taking into consideration students’ great interests towards new technologies.
