Project Summary
The idea for the project presented arose from the cooperation between the two Abibac partner schools Gymnasium Saarburg and Lycée Monge in Charleville-Mézières in France. Since the beginning of this partnership, we have had regular student exchanges for the pupils of grades 11 and 12 enrolled on the Abibac program. Various topics from the social sciences were dealt with.
However, the wish arose to focus more on a relevant topic on the one hand and at the same time intensifying the international teamwork at the meetings. Similarly, a product was to be developed that would also be useful for following generations of pupils and teachers alike.
In addition, the idea that the pupils themselves should be the actors of the project was at the centre of attention. The topic sets a kind of guidelines, along which the participants discover the facts and points of interest, i.e. get to know the function of the EU institutions by opening up various information channels (research, interviews), then locating themselves in Europe and getting to know the position of the partners. Finally, in the capitals they visit, they discover other European regions which, in turn, have their own identity. These steps are documented and presented. In the end, the pupils will create materials to pass on their own experiences, in a first step from one project year to the next, in a second step also to groups not involved in the project.
In each project year we visit a European metropolis – in the first year Strasbourg, in the next year Brussels (The Hague and Frankfurt, among others, are planned for the continuation of the project) – in which a third place encounter will be carried out with eleven pupils of the Abibac program of the 11th grade and the 14 of the Seconde and Première from France.
Both documentations (and hopefully others to follow) will be combined into a single film which, together with the didactic material that the pupils are developing about eTwinning, will enable subsequent generations of pupils to develop the facts presented in the documentation and other materials. The project will also be featured on the homepages of both schools and in the local press. On eTwinning, the project will be made available to interested parties and will help to inform suitable partners about our objectives, if necessary.
