Project Summary
The European History and International communication, in short EHIC, is an international History project that foccuses on engaging students in active citizenship and promote an interest in historical thinking. Ensurring they are able to navigate their European heritage as well as the present and to evaluate and assesS different sources and arguments using critical thinking. The project will aim to include and activate all students through relevance and active lesson plans that takes te students out of the classroom and lets them try out theories in the real world. Giving them responsibilty and impact on their own learning promting them to become active citizens using 21st century skills. We will focus on four main topics of the modern European history. These topics will be World War 2, Cold war, Climate change and the European Union. The age of the students will be between 13-15 years old. The activities, LTTA’s and other assignments will motivate en encourage hunderds students to become critical thinkers in a period of 2 years. All the tasks will be done by students in Denmark, Poland en the Netherlands. Students will be encouraged to explore different sides of history and will gain lifelong understanding, why certain events took place.
During activities at home but also during the LTTA’s students will be able to explore different cultures, different sides of history but also work on their ability to present themselves and addapt to others. They will have to show who they are, what they do and why they think in a certain way. Social inclusion is therefore one of the project’s main focusses. A large number of students will get the opportunity to stay in a host family and truly learn and appreciate the local life of a fellow European and a total of 30 students will join in the student mobilities. Hopefully, this will result in a lifetime long understanding and friendship.
During the 2 years that the project will run,there will be 3 LTTA’s. The order of the LTTA’s is in order of experience. The Polish school doesn’t have that much experience with a project of this size so is offered the opportunity to learn from the other schools. In preperation of the LTTA’s there will also be 3 coordinator meetings in which the preperations for every LTTA can be discussed. During each LTTA the students will assist the teachers in class during the subject that is thought in class and will explain the different sides of history to there classmates. During LTTA’s and in class the students will work in a peer to peer situation and learn from eachother. Assignments and activities will be used by the teachers in the following years after the project as they will be writen into the curriculum of each school. The activities are in a broad spectrum but Always directed to different sides of history. In the fieldtrip students will go to a museum or other historical side and make a Vlog when they get back. The vlogs will be exchanged via the Twinspace and shared in all the classes. Other activities are the making of a propaganda poster, Flipped Classroom, Research project and presentation and many more as showed in the timetable.
By running the project we expect the following results:
1. Improvement of the student´s abilities to use foreign languages, ICT; 21st century skills
2. Development of the work in teams’ skills, especially focused in project-based tasks
3. A list of activities to be developed by students and teachers, that can become part of the school´s curricula;
4. Creating rings of future cooperation among the partner schools in several ways, including multilateral associations;
5. Providing teachers with a real experience in the international educational systems and subjects / school management in every country, creating a wider point of view to discuss and innovate;
6. Designing educational materials to let other schools take advantage of the tasks created, the methods used, and the results of the learning activities.
By running this project we expect that the knowledge, schoolattitude and skills of the students will improve making more them critical thinkers with an improved set of 21st century skills and an improved EU citizenship. By participating in the project, students can make other students
enthusiastic about joining in future projects, help making lessons more interesting and create an open and international admosphere in school. On a school level we hope that other teachers will want to write their own project and let students develop their international network. The school will benefit from the project in making lasting partnerships that can lead to other projects in KA1 and KA229. By our desimination tools we will reach a large group of people that can learn about the outcomes of this project.
