Project Summary

Context
With the increase of children’s innovation of social media, bullying has gotten to be progressively far reaching online. New technologies are an integral part of the lives of young people and their functions are closely related to big risks such as cyberbullism. This project is based on the idea that, as it is not possible to make the virtual world completely safe, it is necessary to build children’s resilience to the material and awareness to which they may be exposed and help build their confidence and skills to manage both the tools and the situations of the Information Society.
Our aims through this project are to cooperate and exchange practices and guidelines characteristic of each school in order to attain a common strategy for dealing with cyberbullying. At all times we will focus on sts and involve them in all activities, which will allow them to express their views and contribute actively. Moreover, we will invite parents to join the activities and, at same time, organize workshops for them.
Our specific objectives are:
– To decrease the incidence of cyberbullying by at least 50% in 2 years
– To raise the awareness of at least 80% of the target group related to all forms of bullying at the end of the 2 project years
– To improve parents’ capacity to monitor their children’s online activity by producing one guide for them and running 4 workshops (C2-C4)
– To design and implement a free online platform (C5) named B.U.O.N.A. acronymus of a part of our title Fighting Cyber bullying with some Blue (European and Erasmus +), Used (contributions coming from different fields of research, such as developmental psychology, social psychology) Old (the conflicts arising among adolescents) New (ICT and their impact on interpersonal relationship) Actions for the reporting of cyberbullying incidents which will be used by all the schools starting with the academic year 2021-2022
– To increase students’ intercultural awareness and communication skills
– To develop students’ creativity and critical thinking
– To develop the European dimension of our schools through international co-operation
Participants
The project is focused on students between 12-14 years old in each school. This target group of students (200 students) will be at the center of all our activities. Among them, we are going to select 64 students who will take part in the Short-term exchanges to live the European involvement directly. They will attend regular classes, topic-related workshops and lectures, cultural activities.
Parents – they are a group we will target straightforwardly and in a roundabout way. A Target Group parents will attend workshops organized by the host schools. Afterwards, they will be able to distinguish and handle cyberbullying acts made towards their children and will be better prepared to raise their children in a secure digital world.
Activities
C1 – European schools and cyberbullism
C2 – My digital time – Guidelines for Internet use
C3 – Knowing my possible enemy – Identification of cyberbullying forms and incidents
C4 – Actors and actions of cyberbullying: buddy and bully
C5 – Reporting online cyber bullying incidents
As a result of our cooperation, we will produce the following outputs, which will be applied in our schools and shared free on dissemination platforms such as eTwinning, EPRP, the project website:
a. Initial and final analysis of cyberbullying in our schools (ITALY)
b. Guide for online safety (PORTUGAL)
c. Brochure entitled Causes and effects of cyberbullying (TURKEY)
d. Guide for parental control of children’s online activity (POLAND)
e. Design and implement of Online platform B.U.O.N.A. for reporting bullying incidents (addressed to students and parents) ( ITALY- ITT)
f. Sets of activities on the topic of cyberbullying for use with students (All partners)
Impact
The project is meant to contribute to the European dimension of our schools, upgrade their security methodologies and ensure a safer environment for students from cyberbullying. The European schools involved will work united sharing materials, information, tools, skills and their appropriate experiences, improving openness and flexibility of our teachers and our students.
The school will gain an advantage in the local community, as it will become more appealing to future students
We will reduce the incidence of cyberbullying, will be more prepared to deal with the phenomenon, will make students abler to identify such situations and how to act in circumstances like that. We will also enable parents to become more active in their children’s life, monitoring and guiding them, providing them with support. Thus we will create a fruitful collaboration school-parents-students.
Our school will become a local resource, as we will share our results with schools in our areas. We will gain a valuable project management capacity which will help us develop qualitative future Erasmus+ initiatives.
