Project Summary

Erasmus+ Active and Innovative Methodologies (AIM) was created after partner schools from Spain,Turkey, United Kingdom, Italy and Malta detected, through internal Diagnostic Tests, the need to improve the results in Maths and an efficient use of technology. We realised that we need to support our students in acquiring and developing their basic skills and key competence in these fields. As our world and the way we interact with it is changing continuously, we need to guarantee that our students are ready to face these challenges, achieving learning skills and not just contents.

The project will focus on a target group of about 100 students at each partner school, but extending and adapting the activities to reach to the whole school and share them with both, local community / institutions and using eTwinning. We want our students to improve their basic skills by being more active in their learning process, working collaboratively, exchanging their progress in the same classroom but also with new European friends using TwinSpace. Following our European Development Plan, international cooperation, European citizenship and an improvement of English language as a communication tool are key factors too. Students will be better prepared to face challenges, they will be more motivated and engaged with their studies and more unlikely to drop school, so this can help reducing the high rates of Early School Leaving once they get to Secondary Education.

To produce these changes it will be necessary to strengthen our teachers teaching skills. The project will enrich schools creating new Didactic Units, projects and active methodology actions. Teachers will participate in Learning Teaching Training events organised by each partner and focusing on their expertise (geometry, gamification, coding maths,…), sharing their best practices with rest of institutions. Each European country can offer a different point of view, and this is another key element. We want to learn from each other, learn from what works in other areas and share what we do best, building bridges and integrating cultures, understanding each other. Participants will take part in exchanging workshops, conferences, specific training courses lead by expert local institutions. New contents and activities will be created collaboratively and implemented straight away during mobilities, analysing their suitability and improving them if needed.

After each activity, project and LTTs with the use of surveys, sucess criteria charts and other types of assessments forms, participants will evaluate and disseminate results (formative evaluation) with the Erasmus Team, created at each school, rest of the staff and Local Authorities using Mass Media and TwinSpace among other tools. All partners have a Dissemination and Evaluation Plan that look after the implementation of this project, its actions and results. Dissemination will be internal and external, with the intention to arrive the further the better. We will be looking forward to share our progress. Management Team from each partner school form part of the Erasmus Team, so decisions can be taken fast.

The project is going to produce systemic and deep improvements, enhancing the school’s DNA, toughing their roots, and producing a high impact in all participants. This project will make better partner schools, more prepared teachers and fully confident students ready to face future challenges. The Erasmus+ Active and Innovative Methodologies project follows the ET2020 guideline and connects with ideas like the ones published on http://www.sisnetwork.eu/media/sisnet/Policy_Brief_Science_Education.pdf, where it is said that “Building capacities and developing innovative ways of connecting science to society is a priority under Horizon 2020. Knowledge of an about science are integral to preparing our population to be actively engaged and responsible citizens, creative and innovative, able to work collaboratively, and fully aware of and conversant with the complex challenges facing society. It helps us to explain and understand our world, to guide technological development and innovation, and to forecast and plan for the future”.
