Project Summary

“From archaeological sites to architecture, from medieval castles to folklore traditions and arts, Europe’s cultural heritage is at the very heart of the collective memory and identity of European citizens. European rich national, regional and local diversity is a unique catalyst for exchanges between people of all ages, social backgrounds and cultures.” http://www.europeanheritagedays.com/European-Year-of-Cultural-Heritage/
It is important that our students realize the importance of preserving the cultural heritage and take pride in their own heritage, so that they can become active European citizens. The project will contribute to students „understanding of the EU, its history and diversity“ and „raise awareness of remembrance, common history and values“ (EACEA).
In this project we have several goals with one horizontal priority: social and educational value of European cultural heritage and open education. During our work on the project we are going to connect three European schools, creating a geographical triangle between Germany, Spain and Croatia, and are going to include 30 students (ages 16-19, 5 from each country) and 12 teachers to explore the cultural beauties to teach students about the importance of accepting other cultures, and to develop a sensibility and awareness of one European identity. In order to explore the cultures, the students are going to work creatively and learn about cultural heritage using digital media. This will create an opportunity for cooperation between teachers and students in creating new teaching materials, that are attractive for the young generations, because they are made by the young generations.
The main objective of the project is therefore: Raise understanding of high school students on the cultural diversity and Europe with their active involvement in the teaching on the cultural heritage.
Results of the project: 1) Students explored and documented cultural heritage in their country and EU during mobilities; 2) Developed interactive and modern teaching tools on diversity of cultural heritage in Europe 3) Developed methodology and teachers’ skills to bring cultural heritage awareness into their classrooms.
The activities designed for the pupils will build and increase and have a long term effect: their knowledge of local and national heritage, interest in other countries and cultures, the experience in exploring cultural sights and heritage and present it using new technologies, develop skills in foreign languages, knowledge of lifestyle in the partner countries, educational experience, motivation to explore their partners´ heritage, digital competences, team work skills, strong bonds with partner school pupils, social skills and tolerance, knowledge of the EU and multiculturalism. The teachers will optimize the impact of the project in a number of ways: they will expand their experience of new subjects and knowledge and of different teaching methods, the knowledge of local and national heritage of their partners` countries, the knowledge of the EU, knowledge of English and partners` languages. The project will have a positive impact on the participating schools in the following aspects: improvement of the school climate, development of interdisciplinary work and approaches, openness and cooperation with partner schools, strengthening the European dimension, styles and contents. There will be better teamwork between teaching, administration and management departments, better teamwork among the teachers and increased support of the parents, local community authorities and the companies involved. Being involved in the project, the parents will get the positive impact as they will expand their interest and knowledge in the heritage and culture and lifestyles of the partner schools from Croatia, Germany and Spain. By supporting the project they will build stronger bonds with the school and local community. They will increase their social skills, tolerance and multiculturalism. The parents as well as other participants in the project will develop deeper understanding of the differences among the cultures thus smashing the stereotypes and misunderstandings. Local authorities will achieve positive reputation by building bonds with the schools, pupils, teachers and parents from the host as well as the guest countries thus strengthening the European dimension of the project objectives and goals.
