Project Summary

Our time at school is supposed to be a time of discoveries and continuous development. However, we must realize that it can be the most stressful period in a person’s life. Chronic stress and work overload ignored for long may make our health status get worse. The surveys conducted in our schools, as well as interviews with parents and teachers, confirmed that children complain about feeling fatigued and unwell because of school demands and they find managing their time difficult. Our curricula tend to focus on memorizing and attainment, whereas our objective should be producing confident citizens, aware of their responsibility for their health and able to manage their future.
We all can recognize the relationship that exists between academic achievement, attendance and student health and wellness. Accordingly, the objective of our project is to coordinate school health approach by:
– school- based activities designed to provide students with a school environment that supports and promotes wellness and an active lifestyle,
– school-based activities meant to teach how to deal with stress
– the inclusion of nutrition education
– the integration of opportunities for physical activity, like breaks and extra physical activity clubs during the student day,
– a friendly and safe school environment for students and staff,
– parents, guardians and family involvement in driving the success of school-based health, wellness and nutrition measures.
Each activity or a meeting scheduled in the project will be an opportunity for developing basic skills and thus each will involve improving reading and listening comprehension, critical thinking, expressing oneself orally or in writing in the native or second language. Learners will be encouraged to applying innovative solutions and will offer them tasks demanding various skills which will give everyone a chance to feel confident. Each school will be in charge of activities they are good at: Polish school will share their know-how in organizing sport tournaments and psychology of sport, Portuguese school will organize a course in ICT for teachers, Italian school, because of the their experience gained during 17 years of continuous participation in Comenius and then Erasmus + projects will provide expert advice to other team members, concerning especially financial management, adequacy and manageability or scope of assigned work, Spanish school cooperating with dietitians will cover the area of health nutrition. As we represent different countries and areas of specialization, the project will provide an opportunity to share teaching methods, especially allowing for active learning, which will include problem solving, discussing, researching, simulations, case studies or role playing. Technology will play a significant part on each step of the project, for planning the cooperation, communicating, producing podcasts, presenting these products, exchanging good practices, monitoring the progress of the project and it will extend the learning experience and facilitate not formal distance learning. The activities will be carried out with:
– entire classes of 7 – 11 old pupils (4 subprojects on eTwinning) and 12 – 15 years old in virtual classrooms projects
– multi-language working groups during mobilities
– groups of teachers
The content of activities constitutes the regular educational program, but it expands the curriculum and is supposed to encourage:
– having positive emotions about learning,
– exploring the subject,
– developing their own understanding of well-being
– making connections between their healthy habits and positive state of mind
– managing stress to build one’s self-efficacy
– enjoying comparing different countries’ perspectives
We expect the pupil performance and achievement, such as public examination results, and the outcomes of standardized assessments will increase by 50% and indicate school ability to provide comprehensive, quality education. Not only teachers will be in charge of performing activities. To provide some knowhow and secure long-term follow-up we will hire specialists, scientists, psychologists or chefs. The project will also demand moving from the confines of classrooms to the world at large. Sharing common goals is likely to strengthen bonds between teachers, parents and school administration since the success depends on combining efforts and diverse perspectives. The schools will regularly inform and update the public, including students, parents, and the community, about the content of its health policy. We will support the efforts of parents to provide a healthy diet and daily physical activity for their children. Evaluating activities, identifying their strong and weak points of the work, reflecting on the feedback, will allow for introducing innovative teaching methods and strategies and determining the direction of school development. It will enhance the most valuable resources our schools have got – human.
