Project Summary

In a Europe that questions itself and in which denying solidarity to refugees is a popular decision, where the numbers of deaths due to gender violence do not decrease at rapid rate, and where environmental objectives are far from being achieved, European schools of this partnership consider it a necessity to reinforce the efficiency in foreign language education. We promotion the use of nontraditional, flexible curriculums which aim to reach the students in a personal and exciting way in order to generate a more flexible and interactive learning, using resources outside the school and integrating foreign languages in teaching values such as gender equality, solidarity and sustainability.

In order to provide global solutions for these problems, we need an effort on the level of the entire European Union, in which students of a similar age, from different linguistic and socio-cultural backgrounds across all of Europe, are able to collaborate and complete projects as a team. Working together towards a common goal removes the idea of Europe as an abstraction, and promotes awareness of the interconnection of European countries. The students will share and learn about each other’s their lifestyles and form of thinking, each other’s struggles and priorities, and the teachers will not only enhance this experience, but also learn from it themselves. During the exchanges, short and long term mobilitites, the participants will be hosted by local families, giving them the opportunity to sink into and witness the entirety of the customs and traditions, and all this through the use of a foreign language. They will experience what differentiates them, but also become aware of how much they have in common. This objective is very important for the personal development of our future leaders, and cannot be achieved without international cooperation. In addition, it will offer students the opportunity to empathize and relate to each other while reducing inequality, intolerance, prejudice and the creation of stereotypes. All this would be impossible to achieve by one country working in isolation.

The learning of languages in itself is a great tool when it comes to progress in academic and professional life. Languages do not only increase the possibility of getting a better job, but also enriches one’s social and cultural lifestyle in a globalized world. It opens doors that would otherwise be unreachable, and boosts self confidence. A more linguistically competent youth is more inclined to develop awareness of their European citizenship, and understand it’s value. Through communication and the exchange of social values, through establishing a personal sense of solidarity, equality and sustainable development with peers from other countries, the importance of both language and connection will be emphasized. It is necessary for this generation to understand that they live in a world of global interaction, and that they have the possibility, and almost the obligation as well as the responsibility, to explore other cultures, habits, and lifestyles through the socio-cultural gateway that languages open.

The specific objectives of this project are aimed at meeting the needs felt by all partner schools and jointly contribute from the educational field to the achievement of the Europe 2020 objectives through short-term joint staff training events, short-term exchanges of groups of pupils and long-term study mobility of pupils.
