Project Summary

1/ Background

A needs analysis within the school has led to identify two objectives to be pursued:
Developping the European dimension of our schools
Promoting innovative common teaching practises of languages
The project also ties with the International year of moderation

2/Overall objectives

-Understanding Europ by studying Romanism in partners countries
-Confront and merge the signs of past and the memories of Antiquity in the two countries
-Facilitate student effective linguistic learning through innovative teaching methods
-Foster collaborative work between French and German students
-Strengthen in young people a sense of European citizenship

3/ Participants

One hundred of 14 to 16 year-old students attending french 3èmes and studying German and Latin, or germans 9° studying french and Latin, coming from various social and cultural backgrounds, some of whom are socially disadvantaged, are targeted.
Two teams of 6 french and german teachers teaching the same subjects ( literature, foreign languages, latin, history, technology, arts ) what the school management team fully supports with guide them.
Two archeological roman places , near the two schools , make their contribution to the projects ( visits, documentary resources, studies and activities )

4/Activities description
Meetings and trainings of the teachers to prepare common innovative pedagogics materials ( co-animation, serious games, documents )and find resources
Investigate work led by the students who may search in resources centers and parallel writing activities in the two countries
Meetings between partners institutions : confrontation and presentation of writing , cooperative workshops to create an historic and illustrated fiction on European Romanism.

5/Project management
Preparatory phase concerns meetings among teachers and investigative works led by the students

Implementation phase contains two stages
For the firs year , a transnational work( led by the pupils) of cultural mediation in the resources centers ( visits in foreign langages , historic and touristic documents destinated to a scholar public , cultural workshops created by the students )
for the second year , a cooperative production of an historic illustrated fiction , throwing new light on Romanism’ s role in the construction of European Identity . Editing the movie shot during the different phases of the project in both languages

Dissemination phase
final productions shown to the wider educational community ( students, parents, teachers, educational authorities)
At a broader level, exhibitions in public places such as librairies, resources centers , cultural events led by students .

6/ waited outcome
Development of linguistic ( oral, rhetoric, writing) area competences for students of the two schools
construction of european citizenship and identity
Development of multicultural area competences of students
Multiplication of european projects between the partners
