Project Summary
“The Science of Colour” project is proposed as a second part of the ATELIER for STE(A)M project. The first project began introducing STE(A)M learning tasks, combining Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics and in this second part we will focus on the world of colour.
From all STE(A)M points of view, students will analyze colour in Arts, in Chemistry, in Technology, in Physics, in Biology, … and how all this influences our lives. At the end of the project we will have prepared a series of didactic units on this subject that will be offered to the entire educational community or stakeholders. They will have free access, with Creative Commons license.
All this will be developed through an initial teacher training that will serve as a starting point and will materialize in the organization of three student conferences, where they themselves will present the work done to the rest of the partners in the partner countries.
All this will provide a great development of their key competences and will open minds and generate new learning opportunities for young Europeans, which we hope will favor the feeling of belonging to Europe.
Teachers will also be involved in improving their daily tasks, innovating their methodologies and generating materials where students’ active learning is encouraged and all this leads to an improvement in their results, decreasing the failure rate, increasing the motivation of the students and consequently promoting school success and the reduction of dropping out.
For the centers, participation in this project is a great opportunity to increase their international presence, to generate new synergies and collaborations and to open their doors to educational innovation and ideas from other schools and educational systems. This project incorporates two new partners compared to the previous one, although with people we already know and who we know will respond positively, providing new ideas and results.
In addition, the topic STE(A)M is one of the fields where there are currently more employment opportunities and where the European Union is calling for participation. We hope that the project can generate new vocations to this type of studies, also thinking about gender issues. This theme is attractive for all, boys and girls, and can be a springboard for students to also dare to study science and engineering. Of course, scientific literacy, focused on all and for all, is a premise in the activities to be developed, favoring the participation of students from socially or economically disadvantaged environments and those with specific needs for educational support (NEAE).
In short, we want to contribute our bit to improve the scientific literacy of society, improve our environment, facilitate access to the work world of our students and create a better world for all.
