Project Summary

Travelling Europe by Art (TravelArt) is an opportunity for young children to get in touch with other european children of their age and communicate through art, culture and creativity. According to several studies, early years art experiences impact positively on children´s confidence and self-esteem as well as their personal, social and emotional development. Art helps breaking down language barriers and cultural prejudices. The children develop their creativity, expression, identity, and imagination, those abilities that will be useful right through their lifetime.

In this project the pupils in four schools from four European countries will get to know 12 european artists and different techniques of painting. Pupils analyse and compare the styles of the chosen artists and produce artwork according to similar painting techniques. The classes will learn about the countries where artists are from, about the artists´ lives and their painting techniques. In each of the classes, we will have a map of Europe, where we pin each country of the artist we are studying. At the end, every pupil will have a portfolio of 12 artworks. Their works will be shared between the partners and exhibited in each others schools.

The teachers will share the experiences, exchange ideas and work together, learning from each other about different techniques and new materials.

TravelArt Project has participants from four schools from four European countries: Finland (City of Tampere), Germany (Remshalden), Lithuania (Silute) and Poland (Lesna). The project is lead by local teachers from each school that are responsible for planning the activities, choosing the artists and the techiques covered in the classes, and teaching the classes both in their own schools, as well as teaching in the other schools they visit during the project. The classes and teachers will visit local galleries and museums, and in the end, organise an exhibition at the end of Project. The classes from grades 0 to 6 (5 – 13 years old) doing the artwork, and presenting the as part of the final exhibition. The project also involves some of the local artists to share their experiences to participating teachers.

In this project students of all grades can enjoy art. We teachers together teach them to see the world through the art and enjoy it.
