Project Summary
This project gathers 4 partner a middle school in metropolitan France, a middle school in Romania, a vocational high school in Italy and another vocational high school in the Reunion Island. About 90 students will work on this project, they will between 14 and 17, and they are from different social backgrounds. Some students are from very disadvantaged backgrounds, others are from the upper middle class. The participants’ age will allow diversity in the project, everyone will contribute to their level of skills, and older students can act as tutors and role models for the younger ones. We also hope to stop some stereotypes about the partner countries, and stop the middle schools’ students’ stereotype about vocational high school. We are working on the issue of global warming because it is one of the challenges of tomorrow’s world, and one of the European and international priorities (COP 24, Sustainable Development Goals of the UN). Our goal is to raise students’ awareness on the issues of global warming, why is it important to fight ? What are the consequences for the planet ? How to fight on our scale ? Why is ii important to be united to act ? How could be the city of the future ? Students will create a global warming awareness campaign and hold a conference to raise awareness. During the project, students will hold a website by regularly publishing articles to raise awareness, and they will make various flyers and posters with the same goal thanks to what they learned during their mobilities and common thoughts. They will study the impact of global warming and the importance of natural parks during the first mobility, then they will think about applicable solutions to reduce their ecological footprint, finally, they will carry out scientific experiments to understand how global warming works to be able to think of other possible solutions. Then, they will imagine tomorrow’s city, a green city, reusing what they have learned during mobilities and the whole project. During the final conference, students will show an awareness documentary produced during the project and their green city project. Throughout the project, students will use Etwinning to share their thoughts, share ideas through different brainstorming and write their collaborative articles before being posted on the official and public website of the project. The will also develop language skills in English as the communication will be in English. They will learn how to use the computering tools (hold a website, carry out researches on specific themes), they will develop scientific skills on global warming. Our students will also develop social and interpersonals skills, they will learn to adapt to another culture, to speak in front of an audiance, and we hope that they will develop their confidence through the various mobilities and activities proposed. Finally, students will learn how to defend a cause, get involved in a concrete project. We hope to fight school drop-out among the most disadvantaged students by hanging them up on a project and showing them that everyone can contribute to it.
We hope to have an impact on two different levels. Students participating will become eco-ambassadors in their school. They will have to teach their peers and the teaching staff by presenting the project through presentations. They will be responsible for posting the awareness posters created during the mobilities and will be available to answer their friends’ questions. We also hope to have an impact on the general public via our website, the local press and social networks. Our aim is to make people talk about us as much as possible, to arouse people’s curiosity and send them back to our website, and to see them in the audience of the final conference. We also hope that the political representatives of the participating countries (mayors and deputies) will be here for the conference in order to have a real international impact.
In the long term, we hope to reuse the materials created during the project to continue to educate future generations, and we hope to resume the project through ETwinng in a few years to see if some of the solutions from our green city project are implemented. We also hope that following this experience, students will want to fight for a cause that is important to them, that they will be invested in the European construction or any other European mobilities.
