Project Summary

The project „Innovative Methods in Health Education Activities” is initiated by the Full Day Kindergarten „Wonderful Spinney” („Dumbrava minunata”) Alba Iulia, for 19 months, having as partners, kindergartens from Turkey and Greece.
The need for initiating this project is represented by the teachers’ low competences, in terms of identifying and applying new methods for promoting a healthy lifestyle among preschoolers. Using new teaching means or improving the ones they know, the teachers should develop an adequate behaviour in children, so that they assimilate the healthy lifestyle, that is to say healthy eating, fruit and vegetable consumption, still water consumption instead of carbonated drinks, outdoor exercise and sport and keeping a good personal hygiene.
The objectives of this project are:
– Familiarizing the eighteen teachers involved in the project with new methods of promoting a healthy lifestyle in the kindergarten, throughout the project.
– The making of optimal teaching means that will lead to a good performance of activities concerning a healthy lifestyle.
– Applying the innovative methods in the educational process by a minimum of 60% of the teaching staff involved in the project.
In the project activities, as well as in mobility, will participate thirtheen kindergarten teachers from all the three kindergartens involved.
Within the project there will be three types of activities: learning, teaching and training, but each kindergarten participating at the project will organize other activities as well, regarding fruit and vegetable consumption, still water instead of carbonated drinks, outdoor exercise and personal body hygiene.
All the activities proposed pursue the horizontal priority – supporting the individuals in acquiring and developing basic skills and key competence, in terms of acquiring abilities in using effective methods during the health education activities in the kindegarten. Through this project, each participant will achieve certain key competences, which will allow to work easily in the health education activities.
The first activity will take place in Romania, the second in Turkey and the third in Greece. Within these activities, the teachers from the partner-countries will visit the kindergartens and together with the teachers from each institution will perform different workshops, for five days.
All these workshops aim at identifying the best methods, means and materials for organizing health education activities and also, the way of applying them.
It is important to take into account the specifics of the age, the fact that the preschoolers are not familiar with the abstract notions. Therefore, everything we want to teach them, the skills we want to develop in them, need to have a practical support. We have to find useful and interesting teaching means and materials which can help us in organizing the activities.
The project will be promoted all this time through different ways: the websites of the organisations participating at the project, articles in the newspapers, flyers, posters, during pedagogical meetings, methodical committees, on eTwinning and other educational sites.
The project activities will be part of all the kindergarten’s activities, through the fact that, during that week, every class will talk about the healthy lifestyle. This will be a thematic project in which we will perform different activities on this topic.
As work methods we will include: workshops, watching an activity, cooperation between participants, exchange of ideas, debates, exercise, role play, focus group and questioning.
The project will have great impact upon the teachers, the preschoolers, the parents and the local community; we will organize activities in collaboration with educational institutions from the local community.
Through the innovative teaching means and methods and with the aid of the materials used by the teachers, the preschoolers will develop easily the skills of a healthy lifestyle.
Thus we will have generations of children who will realize the importance of a healthy lifestyle, they will start assimilating a healthy eating and exercise at an early age.
Educating the children, we will reach to the parents as well, due to the fact that the parents will participate at the activities and will monitor, together with their children, the fruit and vegetable consumption and outdoor exercise and sports, with the aid of the monitoring worksheets made by the teachers.
