Project Summary

This project named Cultural heritage: a precious treasure to be preserved, shared and passed on to future generations is based on sharing and preserving our cultural heritage. The project provides an opportunity to bring cultural heritage to school and to promote dialogue between different cultures. We believe that understanding differences and similarities between cultures will promote mutual understanding which is crucial in today´s society. We believe that sharing our cultural differences and similarities will unite us and help us in identifing our position in the society. We also aim to help our students to realise their identity and become active citizens. The project offers an opportunity to broaden our horizons and increase our awareness and tolerance of other European cultures.
The aim of the project is also to improve conditions for successful learning and offer a variety of activities and methods which focus on life skills. The goal of the project is to increase national and European understanding of the potential of CLIL for education and purposeful integration of peer-tutoring and debates in schooling. By introducing CLIL methodology education process at school will become more modern and dynamic, related to real learning and life situations, students’ skills and abilities will develop in compliance with labour market need. We´re planning using debates as a methodological tool. Students will learn how to give opinion, how to speak in public. They will learn that everyone has the right to speak and be heard. They will learn to respect others. Peer teaching improves confidence, self-esteem, communicative and teamwork skills.
The project involves four schools in four countries, the Czech Republic, Italy, Spain and Latvia. The partner schools differ in the educational programmes, in the size, in the cultural background. What the partner schools have in common is the motivation and experience.
Gymnázium Jana Blahoslava a Střední pedagogická škola (CR) educates students who often continue their studies at pedagogical faculties or work as teachers in kindergartens. We believe it is essential to show them the importance of all-round developement and to acquaint them with innovative methods. The knowledge and skills they gain during their studies will soon be trasmitted to their own students.
Lyceo L. Garofano (Italy) is an active school which has taken part in various projects. The school believes that exchanging ideas, sharing good practice and working together with other countries is an important skill for future generations.
IES Pérez Comendador is a High School in Plasencia (Spain) that offers secondary studies, vocational training and baccalaureate to more than 600 students. Their bilingual section has been working for 14 years trying to foster increasing concern about languages and it has been providing our everyday work with international dimension. They strongly believe in the importance of cultural heritage in the process of becoming a good citizen aware of our European common history.
Riga English Grammar School (Latvia) is a public comprehensive school located in Riga (1064 students in 37 classes from 7 to 19 y.o.) and provides K12 education as well as extra-curricular activities for local community (in Latvian). Riga English Grammar School focuses on reinforced English language teaching, content and language integrated learning (CLIL), as well as on finding new approaches for ICT integration in schooling and fostering European dimension by active participation in international projects.
We have decided to prepare a project which offers students an opportunity of personal development, an opportunity to improve existing skills and to try something new. We believe that the suggested activities will improve students´ attendance at school and their commitment to education. The project will involve hundreds of students, directly or indirectly. Some activities will be short-term and they will bring an innovative method to a lesson, for example practical activities for learning literature or civics workshop introducing minorities. Some activities will be long-term and they will require more commitment and engagement from students, for example peer teaching. Some activities will be organized as a workshop, for example a project day for children from a local kindergarten.
The activities will improve team work, reduce stress and stimulate creativity and imagination. Students will improve their language and communicative and IT skills – they will design websites, make presentations about their school and learn how to make a mobile phone application and edit photos.
Various educational materials (worksheets, mindmmaps) will be created, tested and reviewed during the two years of the project duration and should become a common aid after the project is completed.
