Project Summary

The present project involves two schools belonging to different but at the same time complementary contexts. Istituto Comprensivo “Melanzio-Parini” is based in the town of Castel Ritaldi, central Italy, in a quite small territory, but touched by the presence of immigrants, element which reflects on the composition of the classrooms and so has been a spur for the participation in the project. On the other side, “Alexandru Vlahuta” school, based in Iasi (Romania) is attended by Rroma children and by students coming from very disadvantaged areas, often without electricity and sanitation grids. Therefore, a project aimed to inclusion and tolerance represents a fundamental chance for the school. The pupils involved in the project will be about 253, aged between 11 and 14 years old and attending a lower secondary school.
General objective: developing in participants the awareness of diversity devised as a value, through the use of fairy tales.
Specific objectives:
-developing positive approaches of curiosity, openness and critical thinking towards the other and other cultures;
-augmenting openness towards welcoming and democratic cohabitation;
-promoting social inclusion.
The main activities that will be implemented during the project are the following:
– Actions of awareness-raising to show to the families and the community the objectives and the activities foreseen during the project.
– Disposition of useful materials to introduce all the involved participants and to realize all the activities. Participants will use Skype, the eTwinning platform and create a Facebook page and an Instagram page of the project.
– Laboratories, which will be developed according to blended learning methodology. Each laboratory will foresee an alternation of online training, work in the classrooms and virtual meetings, and will involve all the pupils of the two schools, so that the continuity of the project will be assured also when the students in the last year will not attend the school anymore.
The final result of the laboratories will be the creation of a corpus of fairy tales belonging to different geographical and cultural contexts. The aim is collecting fairy tales coming from countries and also regions different from the ones in which the schools are based. In the case of the Romanian school, focus will be on fairy tales of the Rroma tradition. The fairy tales will be collected by the students interviewing their parents to gather from their memories the tales that will create the corpus. The interviews will be in a video-format and in original language and then will be subtitled in English. The fairy tales will be transcribed by the students. This final product will be created by the students themselves assembling all the elements (texts, videos, subtitles, music).
– 2 LTTA- Short-Term exchanges of groups of pupils: the true life experience at the base of the mobilities will allow the students to deepen the awareness about their own culture, the knowledge about the culture and the lifestyle of the partner country and most of all to know more about those of peers coming from very different backgrounds. They will also acquire more awareness on the importance to communicate in other languages. In general, the experience will allow students and teachers to acquire more awareness about their shared European identity, contributing to a real development of their sense of citizenship.
– Publication and sharing of the final corpus online.
– Dissemination of the results in the two communities.
– National final events (IT and RO) to disseminate the project results, involving schools, local bodies and other potential stakeholders.
The project aims to impact the two communities and the European education world: the creation of a network, made up by the partner schools and by the schools and the territory, will permit the dissemination of the project results on a European level and to stimulate other subjects which, on a national level, will become able to experiment similar activities.
Considering that the proposal is addressed to the young part of the population, the hope is that what has been realized and most of all what has been learnt will last in the participants, contributing to create a new generation that will make a stronghold of inclusion, intercultural communication and respect.
