Project Summary
skill-UP aims to define the knowledge, skills and competences required by the current and future employers of the Air Transport Sector to better align the training offered to the requirements of different occupational profiles. By identifying the needs of an evolving labour market, skill-UP will develop initial and continuing VET training programmes based on suitable and innovative teaching and training methodologies.Skills shortage sends alarming signals to both the European Air Transport Sector and the educational institutions. The Air Transport Sector has always been at the forefront of the excellence and innovation, attracting and retaining highly skilled employees, and because of that a potential skill shortage could adversely influence the capacity of the industry to develop and maintain both existing and future air platforms and systems. To prevent negative impact of these changes on the European competitiveness of the sector, new skills have to be identified and education and training of air transport and aeronautical careers have to be adapted to the evolving requirements of the sector. It is estimated that by 2030, 14% of the global workforce may need to switch occupational categories due to digitization, automation, and advances in artificial intelligence. The composition of the skills and knowledge required for working in the Air Transport Sector will change, and new competences will be required in addition to the ones that are important in the current scenario:- Growing need of skills and abilities to work with data, and big data, to carry out descriptive diagnostics, predictive and prescriptive tasks.- Knowledge of ICT, including multimodal interaction with advanced HMIs, automation and robotics. – Teamwork and communication, where the team is composed of both humans and robots. The future workforce therefore needs to alternate work periods with regular, regulated training to permanently upgrade or complete their initial education.
