Project Summary

Plastic pollution permeates every aspect of our lives, but also highlights the importance of environmental care, protection and conservation. The fact that plastic pollution has detrimental health, social and economic effects compels us to think innovatively about how to address it. United Nation (2018) highlighted that -with today’s youth population (15-24 years) at 1.2 billion and further growth anticipated for the near future, investments in youth must be channelled to enable them to adopt sustainable methods for environmental protection.

UN Environment Programme (UNEP) has said ‘In 1950, the world’s population of 2.5 billion produced 1.5 million tons of plastic; in 2016, a global population of more than 7 billion people produced over 300 million tons of plastic – with severe consequences for the environment. Plastic pollution is destroying our lives, wildlife and our ecosystem. United Nations estimated that world’s population will reach 10 billion by 2050 relatively, it is expected the plastic production will triple.
Recently, young people started a movement for the protection of the environment and their future. They need support from governments, NGOs and from all stakeholders. We all need to work together to equip youth and communities to reduce plastic pollution.

AIMs
-Imparting awareness and a sense of environmental stewardship among the youth of today and future generations (by engage, support and empower youth to take sustainable environmental actions and promote them) through Strategic Partnership and share good practices
-to build/increase the capacity of NGOs to take action regarding reducing plastic waste in the partner countries by encouraging local communities to recycle and re-use.
-to equip youth workers with new sustainable environmental skills in order to empower more young people
