Project Summary
Digitized skills portfolios create new opportunities to document, present and validate skills in continuous change that can be constantly and rapidly updated in line with technology and competence development, the business community’s knowledge needs and requirements for the learners’ employability today, tomorrow and for their future professional life. Due to technological developments, education will probably also have to offer more advanced elements than today. The content of the education and training needs to give the learners a chance to take advantage of jobs which arise through rapid changes in technology. The Project will create new opportunities to make accurate information about skills available more quickly in line with technology and competence development, the business community’s knowledge needs and requirements for the learners’ employability now and development of their future professional life. Due to technological development, education will probably also have to offer more advanced elements than today. The content of education and training needs to give learners a chance to take advantage of jobs in new, nearby jobs that arise through changes in technology. Our assessment is that digitized skills portfolios form part of digital technology maturity. Comprehending teaching methods that derive from the incentive scheme that contributes to the motivation of learners, VET staff and management should take steps towards digital communication of knowledge and skills acquired in vocational education and work-based learning.
Every new innovative invention changes the conditions for most things we do and forces us to adapt to the new conditions. The individuals and companies that adapt best (but not necessarily first) and see innovative opportunities with the new technology, become successful. The result is a general streamlining in a very broad sense – with a certain amount of work, energy and resources we achieve more today than ever before. The fact that we have only seen the beginning of the change that digitalization can bring forward is clear, given that most companies and organizations have only had time to take their first steps towards digitization.
Number and profile of participants: 160 VET Staff, 70 VET learners, 70 companies.
Results: Intellectual output in a report, available for free, divide in three parts:
Part 1. Evaluation criteria of a good digital portfolio promoting employment and career development.
Method: Research
Part 2. Analysis of company criteria for a useful digital competence portfolio which facilitates staff recruitment.
Method: Multiple event with local companies
Part 3. An education and training concept for VET-staff/teachers to instruct learners in how to produce their own digital skills portfolio.
Method: Learning Teaching Training
Expected impact is step in change of action by learners by using digital methods to communicate their skills in an attractive way for the labour market. We also want to give VET staff increased knowledge in how to accomplish an education and training event/lesson to promote learners understanding, motivation, ability to perform a digital competence portfolio. We aim for solutions that influence behaviours that have positive consequences for participating individuals when they change their way of action by developing a concept for a behavioural change by A) activating by stimuli, B) influencing behaviour by teaching, C) consequences in outcomes which leads to learners added use of digital methods to communicate their skills in an attractive way for potential employers.
Potential longer-term benefits are know-how in how to implement digital competences portfolios in education and training to keep up VET with the dramatic upcoming change in society due to new advanced technology made possible by digitization. A development that we have only seen the beginning of and which with high probability also entails major changes in the field of education that we can only imagine.
