Project Summary
FORTHEM – Fostering Outreach within European Regions, Transnational Higher Education and Mobility – is an alliance of Johannes Gutenberg-Universität Mainz, Université de Bourgogne, Jyväskylän Yliopisto, Uniwersytet Opolski, Università degli Studi di Palermo, Latvijas Universitāte and Universitat de València. Its main target is to reach a significant increase in the quality, attractiveness and European dimension of education and to maximize mobility and European credit transfer. By 2022, FORTHEM will implement a joint “Transnational Higher Education Strategy”, ensuring that all partners will• establish common administrative structures• set up FORTHEM Digital Academy for virtual and blended mobility• implement innovative forms of short- and long-term mobility; among them new joint degrees, a model for simulating EU decision-making, and FORTHEM Campus (joint programme on rotating host campuses).• remove barriers to mobility and harmonize structures and processes,• introduce the ‘European student card’ and ‘ERASMUS without paper’,• set up interdisciplinary FORTHEM Labs to work out research-based solutions to European challenges such as Diversity and Migration, Experiencing Europe, Multilingualism in School and Higher Education, Food Science, Digital Transformation• enhance outreach activities such as bringing Europe into classrooms, professional support for volunteer engagement, an internship placements network, and multidisciplinary business project courses.FORTHEM activities will have a long-term impact: Generated outputs and best practices can be replicated in other higher education institutions. The mobilities, training modules and projects will have impact on the personal and professional careers of our students, staff and non-university partners. Additionally, working out innovative solutions in FORTHEM Labs will have impact on the regional and national levels and improve mutual understanding and citizen development in very different parts of Europe.
