Project Summary

The project is an example of the strategic partnership working to developing a modern, innovative educational materials in the field of vocational education and training. Partnership is based on four actors from the three member countries of the European Union. The project responds to the needs of all partners. The aim of the project is to improve the quality and to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of the activity for vocational training of people involved in the diagnosis of trees by developing a comprehensive training programme and teaching materials in the field of Diagnostics of trees (Tree Assessment), as well as the standards of training and evaluation of acquired knowledge and skills.
The overall result of the project will be a comprehensive set of training materials for the tree assessment covering aids for trainers, self-assessment aids for trainees and a set of textbooks for the basic and advanced level. These materials are intended for training centres for tree diagnosticians and trainees now mainly educated in the informal way but prepared also to be used as a complement to formal education. A set of training materials developed in the framework of international cooperation will fill very currently visible gap in the market for training materials for such a young profession as diagnostic trees.
The results of the project will include the standards for training of tree diagnosticians (tree assessors), materials for trainers (including guidelines for the evaluation of the effects of training and trainer’s guide), materials supporting self-learning for persons undergoing training (a set of materials and tests to self-evaluation of own knowledge) and two multi-part manuals: Diagnostics/ assessment at a basic level and Advanced Diagnostics/ assessment. All the results can be used by teachers in the formal and informal education in other related areas, for example, in the vocational secondary schools of forestry, landscape architecture studies, arboriculture training, as well as in the process of self-study people interested in standalone expand knowledge in this area. An important element of the project is to define the minimum qualification standards regarding tree assessment at different levels of completion which will help in the recognition of the profession and the evaluation of the qualifications in the processes of education and employment. Materials will be available on line and in addition in the form of prepared for traditional printed form.
Target groups of the project are:
Directly: trainers in the tree assessment, people training in tree assessment, adults that want to develop professionally in the tree assessment , arborists, who want to work with tree assessors in the diagnosis in the crown, training institutions already training in the diagnosis of trees;
Indirectly: citizens, greenery managers and managing institutions, colleges and universities training in the field of green (for example, landscape architecture and forestry and gardening vocational schools), policy makers in the field of trees – the contracting authority for the diagnosis of trees, the institutions constituting the right- the Ministry, chambers of Commerce, the courts.
Innovation in the project applies in particular to two areas:
1. the area of professional qualifications –tree assessment and particularly advanced diagnostics in connection with actions for the environment, is a new occupation especially in the area of Central-Eastern Europe, and there is more and more demand for the job and the services;
2. method -simultaneous preparation of materials and guidelines for the training of inspectors of trees both trainers/teachers as well as trainees.
The project responds to the important and vivid need to standardize the qualifications of people involved in evaluation of the trees in an age of growing awareness of the protection of nature, but also the increased risks of climate change. It will include the existing norms, standards and guidelines in the arboriculture industry but be supported by newest knowledge and broad consultation in the target groups. The project is implemented in partnership institutions representing the 3 countries: Poland, Hungary and Latvia, but its results are projected for use in all the Europe, especially in countries of Eastern Central Europe, less advanced in industries associated with trees.
