Project Summary
The aim of the project is to inform and educate people about human rights and raise human rights culture by developing accessible, modern and society-oriented human rights learning tools and programmes. The cornerstone of this aim is the Human Rights Guide – a universal, concise and simple human rights self-help and education tool. The project thrives to implement the Guide in new partner countries within EU, expand and improve it in the Baltic states and Bulgaria as well as to use it as the basis to further develop sustainable and innovative human rights learning programmes for specific target groups.
The pilot of the Guide was already launched in all three Baltic countries in 2017 at http://www.humanrightsguide.eu. While the project was commenced as a Baltic initiative, already at an early stage it was realized that given the existing legislation and political/legal climate, similarities in human rights situation and lack of human rights education tools for adults, some other European partner countries would greatly benefit from the outcomes of this project. Therefore, the Guide will be further developed and expanded towards other selected European Union countries.
As a result, the Human Rights Guide will be available online to a large number of society members and professional users. This self-help and education tool will help not only in individual situations, but also to improve human rights situation in each partner country and the region – increase tolerance, pluralism, social inclusion and democratic participation.
The Guide’s content has also been developed and designed in such a way to serve as the basis for new human rights education programmes and functionalities. An online knowledge assessment tool has already been developed as an integral part of the Guide, which will be further expanded and implemented in new countries during this project. Also, within this project phase a methodological toolkit on how to teach human rights to public sector will be developed using the Guide as a source material.
The work on the intellectual outputs of this project will be used as an opportunity of establishing and strengthening partnerships and cooperation in the area of human rights education. Both on national and European level it will bring together different NGOs and state institutions working with human rights and will contribute to cooperation and exchange between different actors in implementing and disseminating human rights education initiatives for adults.
