Project Summary
Context:
European Cultural Heritage is an excellent key tool as didactic resource to educate in multiple training areas.
The Project promotor and the Ministry for Environment of Austria developed the LIFE STARS + 20 pilot project.
It was oriented to incorporate environmental sustainability to tourist resources along Saint James Way, the first European cultural itinerary (Europe Council) and declared a UNESCO World Heritage site. The results achieved by the afore-mentioned project have a great pedagogical interest and social to reach an innovative approach applied to VET based on the service –learning methodology.
Objectives:
The Project pursues to test and validate a new learning approach based on the European cultural heritage and a three-fold objective:
1º-To strengthen key competences for a wide range of professional families through European Cultural Heritage-related Service-Learning Dynamics (SLDs) and the support through a mobile classroom equipped with polyvalent technologies for rural areas.
2º-The additional acquisition of culture-related knowledge not included in the very same curriculum of the VET specialties.
3º-Defense of social values through actions supporting the European strategy to fight against climate change, based on the very same professional knowledge acquired seen in conjunction with the European cultural heritage´s valorisation.
Justification of the need:
European Cultural Heritage is a key tool as didactic resource to educate and to train in multiple knowledge areas and social values: history, culture, geography, sciences, languages, arts, environment, interculturality…; and it allows to develop new learning dynamics unexplored for VET ambit.
The Project is aligned through a new VET methodological approach applied with the conclusions achieved by the Mapping of Cultural Heritage actions in European Union policies, programmes and activities” report (August 2017) produced by the General Direction for Culture of the European Commission and the needs of strengthening training actions aligned with the Communication of the European Commission itself “Towards an integrated approach to cultural heritage for Europe” (COM/2014/0477 final).
This new approach seeks, together with the gaining of professional skills, to promote among young Europeans the enhancement of the EU cultural heritage and the defense of social values as Environment.
Recipients: VET teachers, VET young people, VET providers, youth associations and cultural.
Added value of an international development:
The “FORM-ARTE” Project introduces a new VET-approach, cultural and environmental starting from Saint James Way as the first European cultural itinerary expandable to other touristic routes or EU cultural heritage serving as new didactic platforms for young Europeans of a large number of VET specialties.
Results:
– Didactic guide for VET trainers in 5 languages. It will be applied to the new interactive approach, the curricular design of different VET families. It will be based on the Service-Learning methodology of interest for the professional qualification applied to the European Cultural Heritage and the environmental defense.

– E-learning platform in 5 languages on the sustainability measures applied and experienced in 6 loading houses along Saint James Way for the ultimate purpose of being a new interactive learning approach supported by a mobile classroom for the presential seminaries foreseen in several stages of Saint James Way.
– Pilot e-learning action for 50 VET teachers coming from different vocational training families of special interesting ambits for valorisation, rehabilitation and conservation of the EU cultural heritage and internalisation of criteria, measures and environmental considerations.
– Demonstrative experimentation pilot action to validate the Project methodology, contents and new approach through one e-learning action aimed at 250 European VET young people through the practical applying to the European cultural heritage and multiplier events and presential seminaries through a mobile class-room equipped with didactic resources and polyvalent technology for the highest impact.
