Project Summary
ENCOURAGING SUnRISE project builds on the emerging needs of companies in the Wood and Furniture Industry to give employment to young graduated generations (in HE and VET) covering, in doing this, two objectives or challenges: students technically prepared and students motivated to work in this specific sector.
To achieve both challenges, technical and attitudinal, the SUnRISE project will explore the use of gamification and the Simulation Learning Environment, which has already seen successful applications in other domains. In particular, ENCOURAGING SUnRISE will introduce gamification to the Wood and Furniture Sector. The project will be the first step to trigger modernisation in initial and continuous VET in the sector through gamification and simulation tools. This will offer a chance for alignment of the needs and opportunities that traditional industries offer through innovative didactic approaches. ENCOURAGING SUnRISE will reinforce the top skills that the most outstanding workers of the sector usually display and it will show it in an attractive way. Moreover, it will be a free content available in different platforms, websites and languages, allowing its wide use across Europe.
The furniture sector, as other traditional sectors, is currently facing the lack of updated didactic methodologies for both upskilling the current workforce towards the digitalisation of the industry and attracting young employees to the sector .
The project focuses on different target groups such as furniture VET students, teachers, trainers and mentors, furniture professionals, students and professionals of other sectors, entrepreneurs, policy makers, experts in human resources, local press and media. These groups will be resorted to in several parts of the project by giving advice or taking an active role. , Furthermore, SUnRISE expects to involve 1454 people in the project, including a pilot in Poland and Spain
The project has designed an ambitious dissemination plan taking into account stakeholders, target groups and the possibilities of the consortium.
A consortium with complementary backgrounds as well as highly experienced and skilled in education, furniture and wood, research, learning certifying and gamification will ensure that the SUnRISE project sees a successful result along and at the end of its 24-months duration:
– PULS, Higher Education institutions from Poland experts in research and furniture
– SITLiD, Expert association and VET centre around Furniture and Wood industry
– GLOBALNET, Private company expert in gamification and ICT
– CETEM, Spanish Business representative association expert in VET Eduational Furniture Proccess
– CENFIM Expert cluster and VET centre in Furniture
– INNOVAWOOD, European network and platform in the forestry, woodworking and furniture sector
This project is organised to achieve 4 milestones that will meet the final objective of the project and could also be rather useful to other transversal purposes (future projects, clue information of the sector, differences between European countries, key and top skills, etc.). To manage the project, several managers have been selected to lead each milestone: the project will have a project coordinator-Poznan Un., a dissemination manager- InnovaWood and a Quality Assurance and Risk manager-CETEM, with the aim of achieving objectivity and transferability:
MS1: Training paths, units and tasks designed
MS2: Reality background created
MS3: Videogame course released
MS4 Blueprint deployment and sustainability plan
Finally, a summary of the milestones and available results after the project:
-List of transversal skills needed in furniture and other traditional sectors
-Training path with corresponding units to acquire those skills and tasks
-A reality background about the furniture sector to be implemented in the simulation tool
-Developed course in a simulation videogame based on the work environment of a furniture enterprise with usual tasks inside a Factory
-The definition of a Blueprint and the deployment of its action plan for the transformation of furniture-related VET programmes towards a new gamification and Simulation Learning Environment.
The final result will be a new methodology that VET teachers could use in class to show processes in furniture, typical tasks based on working environment; furniture companies could employ it to illustrate previous aspects to new employees; an entrepreneur could make use of the results by their own to learn some important clues in furniture
Finally, the ENCOURAGING SUnRISE project will have a significant European impact, during and after the project, depicted in the definition of a Blueprint action plan and in the fact that all gamified interactive content produced by the consortium will be provided as free, open and public assets. Consequently, VET centres, HE organisms and learners from all over the world would benefit from this project
