Project Summary

The alliance is broad reaching in its ambitions, establishing the first European challenge-based University. We seek to provide educational pathways that are flexible in content, duration and location to include all types of learners. We provide an enhanced third level education via integration of broad inputs from public and private stakeholders and most current research from our universities. We seek to foster a European identity via engagement with challenges of European relevance and through expansion of European language acquisition for learners. We seek to contribute to European competitiveness by placing innovation at our core. Finally, we seek to grow together toward a joint future as a functioning European University. Our approach for the European Universities initiative is to develop, test and evaluate innovative educational pedagogies. At the centre of our project are three main steps:1. Generation of challenges via input from societal and industrial stakeholders2. Formation of teams to work on challenges, using a variety of educational resources jointly offered by all participating institutions3. Exploitation of results of the challenge teamsThe Education offer of the alliance aims to provide relevant knowledge for any type of learner (original pathways) and create the first European challenge-based Master degree, making ECIU University’s students and staff benefit from a true inter-campus environment. To support these activities we set up educational labs to develop pedagogy and train teachers and external stakeholders in new methods. We embed mobility throughout the network in all our activities. In line with our long-term mission of developing a united European university, we create joint structures and services covering all the main areas of university activity. Finally, we engage with the broader national and European environment to clarify what legislations, policies and incentives are needed to make the vision of European universities real.
