Project Summary

The OECD’s Skills for Jobs database records that at least 80 million workers in Europe do not have the appropriate qualification for the job they are doing, either because they are undervalued or over-qualified. According to the OECD, this is the case for 42% of workers in Greece, 41% in Portugal or 37% in Germany.
The lack of skills has an economic impact on both workers and companies.
In Italy, this translates into a reduction in wages of € 4,000 a year; and about € 8,000 in Germany.
More than 7 graduates out of 10 in the humanities are employed in a job unrelated to their specialization. The 19th global report on entrepreneurship, research conducted by the GEM consortium (Global Entrepreneurship Monitor) in 54 countries, records Sweden and the Netherlands (positioned in the top ten) among the most enterprising European countries. Among the worst countries, Italy ranked 51st out of 54 followed by Bosnia and Greece, just above France.
The European TEA, Entrepreneurial Activation Rate, which measures the percentage of the adult population aged between 18 and 64 who has started a business or started a business in Europe for less than 42 months, is the lowest at world level.
Young graduates, 22-35, find it difficult to take the road of self-entrepreneurship with fear of failure, a negative perception of their abilities and a low perception of favorable opportunities.
The specific objective is to provide support to young graduates in the humanities in the acquisition of entrepreneurial skills useful for promoting the creation of new businesses.
The partnership is composed of 6 organizations qualified in training and entrepreneurship support from: Italy, Cyprus, Spain, Bulgaria, Poland, the Netherlands.
The target group is made up of recent graduates in the humanities, aged between 22 and 35 years. The direct participants in the project activities are 450 people (300 target groups and 120 stakeholders).
The need highlighted is the lack of entrepreneurial skills of these subjects, who very often are forced to enter the labor market with disorientation and a high propensity to relocate to occupations far removed from their studies and not taking into consideration the entrepreneurship.
The implementation activities foreseen by the project are:
• administration of 6 questionnaires (per country) for the target group,
• administration of 6 questionnaires addressed to the experts,
• organization and coordination of 6 Focus Groups (by country) to discuss the issues addressed in the project;
• collection of the results of the survey phase and identification of good practices by country in response to the problem detected;
• action to raise awareness on social networks to encourage startups aimed at graduates in the humanities.
• realization of 6 transnational project meetings;
• creation of the Be Your Boss! Cultural Factory – Training and Entrepreneurship and dissemination plan and exploitation of results.
The expected results at the end of the project are:
• improved quality of the vocational training offer for adults in each partner country;
• strengthened cooperation between the organizations active in the entrepreneurial and vocational training field;
• creation of a European network, which increases the ability to operate at a transnational level, and which allows the sharing and comparison of ideas, practices and methods
• increased motivation of graduates in the humanities outside the labor market to undertake an entrepreneurial journey;
• increased perception by the target group of self-employment opportunities;
• increased confidence by the target group in the investment of humanistic skills in an entrepreneurial journey;
• increased dissemination of effective and innovative practices for the inclusion of graduates in humanities focused on the drive and support of self-employment.
The impacts that Be Your Boss! EC4ED wishes to produce are:
• greater active citizenship;
• greater knowledge of the issue of self employment;
• greater entrepreneurial skills in the humanistic-literary sector;
• greater stimulation to the adoption of transnational experiences and competences to experiment and improve the offer of training programs, materials and methodologies;
• increased participation in European networks and encouraged the creation of networks of contacts in other Member States;
• improved sharing of information between European regions on entrepreneurial skills;
• strengthened cooperation between the organizations active in the professional and educational field and improved dialogue between the latter with decision makers and institutions;
• increasing knowledge and visibility of EU priorities and European projects.
