Project Summary
“Power4Youth Leaving Care” (November 2019 – August 2021) will address preparation of young people leaving care with the main goal to promote building of their skills and knowledge for independence living, and it will tackle the needs of youth workers who work with them so that they are better acknowledged, equipped with the right experiences and tools to guide young people. Participants are youth workers, professionals and young careleavers aged 18-25 years from SOS Children’s Villages from Albania, Kosovo, Macedonia, Poland, Bulgaria and Serbia. Young people leaving alternative care often encounter barriers to their social integration due to different reasons and data and reports emphasize as well the need to increase guiding competences of professionals. To address these gaps, the project targets the lack of knowledge on comprehensive approaches for leaving care through capacity building activities and setting of peer youth groups, through sharing of practices in different contexts. The project will capitalize on sharing experiences from all the involved members and especially on previous successfully implemented project with EU funds “Prepare for Leaving Care” “Leaving Care” and “Now What” on mentoring of young people leaving care. There would be a series of activities to upgrade skills of professionals and young people and bring them in a network: Kick off meeting on 4-5 November, 2019 in Albania will bring all the partners and young people to agree on the project agenda. The Capacity building for youth workers, on March 3-5th in Bulgaria will gather a community of 38 professionals to share and learn from methodologies and practices on leaving care from each of the country and based on experiences of other implemented projects. Learning Workshop for youth, on 2-4 June in Albania will gather 24 young careleavers from all the countries to benefit knowledge on peer to peer approaches on leaving care and advocacy. National workshops will follow with careleavers to consult and define actions for follow up at country level for improvement of provisions on leaving care. 3 virtual webinars will be organized with professionals from the participating organizations on leaving care with young people contribution.A youth mobility “Learn&evaluate”, will bring 20 young care leavers Albania, Kosovo, Poland, Bulgaria, Macedonia within a peer network to get training on different skills and learn from practices implemented by SOS Children’s Villages Kosovo, on 4-9 April 2021. A final closing event of the project will be organized on 21-22 June, 2021 in Macedonia, including care professionals, youth and other relevant stakeholders on national and regional level to get informed and benefit from the experiences. Two briefing papers including promising examples on leaving care will be developed The activities can assist prospective care leavers by providing them with the necessary tools to enjoy their full rights as European citizens.
