Project Summary

GBV is both a cause and a consequence of gender inequalities and human rights violations, which undermines the health, dignity, security and autonomy of its survivors: women, girls, men, boys and LGBTIQ+ persons. To address its challenges and the risks associated with them, practitioners should be equipped with quality, readily accessible and disaggregated data on GBV prevention. Currently, there is inconsistency in how GBV prevention data is disaggregated, and how GBV is defined. Single indicators in GBV prevention are not enough to measure the targets. For instance, estimates by WHO indicate that about 1 in 3 of women and girls worldwide have experienced physical and/or sexual intimate partner violence or non-partner sexual violence in their lifetime. But what about marginalized men, boy and LGBTIQ+ persons? There is a need to not only measure the objective situation of GBV perpetrated against women & girls, but also to gather information about men, boys & LGBTIQ+ perceptions on GBV. Further, a lot of what we know about GBV comes from survivors and witnesses. Not many have turned to the perpetrators to understand how GBV is used in their particular setting. Without a clear understanding of the conditions under which various forms of GBV are likely to happen, it is not feasible to design sustainable interventions. In this regard, the project contributes to achieve the following:(1). development of more structured cooperation between different grassroots youth organizations to build and strengthen localization in GBV prevention; (2). make significant contributions to the understanding of human rights: LGBTIQ+ rights, gender diversity and EU’s principles against GBV; (3). provide marginalized men, boys and LGBTIQ+ youth with creative tools and skills to express themselves and bridge the gap by increasing their representation and involvement; (4). analyses comparative studies on GBV prevention in youth work and its challenges will be made and compiled in the partner countries.
