Project Summary
“moveurope!- promotion of mobility for refugees in Europe” is a pilot project that wants to lay the foundation for young refugees’ access to mobility opportunities in Europe to strengthen their Active European Citizenship and to provide an alternative to irregular secondary movements. All together this shall lead to a strengthened social inclusion of young refugees in Europe.
WIth that, the project reacts to an urgent mobility desire and need of young refugees to explore the European context, as their European peers to, and to have tangible access to opportunities beyond the country that they are living in.
Target groups of the project are thus 1. Youth workers or working with young refugees or working in the mobility area 2. Other stakeholders such as mobility program providers working in on of the two areas 3. Young refugees with a mobility desire in the role of the indirect beneficiaries of the project.
So far, only scarce knowledge, both among youth workers and young refugees, on how to make possible refugees’ participation in mobility programs exist. The existing legal framework is complex and varies a lot from one country to the other. The visa procedure that has to be launched in case of stays above 3 months is full of administrative challenges and can be successfully ran through only in case of professional guidance.
In order to effectively promote young refugees’ access to mobility programs, moveurope! wants to provide the necessary foundation for a strengthened youth work framework and wants to trigger an important capacity-building process.
To do so, in the framework of the project the following activities are planned:
All 8 countries involved will do intensive research on the mobility framework in their country, including legal framework, characteristics of the visa procedure and impact on refugees’ current residence permits of stays abroad. All material will be collected and structured and a first draft of the planned mobility guide and the project’s training concept (ToT) will be developed. In the framework of an internal training activity, the youth work staff of all organizations will learn how to use non-formal education (NFE) in their work, how to design NFE tools and will learn how to deliver training sessions to train other professionals. The prototypes of the planned Mobility toolkit will be created and will then be completed in the following weeks. The draft of all three planned outputs (Mobility guide, Mobility toolkit, training concept) will then be tested in every country in two sessions each with youth workers and young refugees. Based on the outcomes the final version of the material will be created and consolidated.
For a successful dissemination, every country will implement one multiplier event in its countries. Other offline and online disseminations are planned, including monthly webinars on the concept for youth workers Europe-wide.
All above mentioned target groups will participate in the just mentioned activities with about 192 youth workers and 192 refugees participating in the test sessions, about 320 youth workers+ stakeholders participating in the 8 multiplier events and 180 youth workers joining the webinars.
Furthermore, in total 600 subscribers will be informed every month on the project’s recent development and other related news and 400 users will use the project mailing list to update and support each other on interesting mobility opportunities and to launch new mobility projects and initiatives. They will be part of a European mobility network that will continue being active beyond the duration of this project.
A remarkably higher number will actively use the created materials in their daily work with young refugees to familiarize them with the mobility concept and to concretely guide them in their mobilities.
On the long term, moveurope! has the potential, to remarkably increase young refugees access to mobility programs and to raise awareness for the need for a facilitated access. Thanks to the projects’ outputs, youth workers have now useful and well-structured material to inform themselves country per country on the mobility opportunities of the refugees they are working with, and how to familiarize and inform them on the topic.
For the first time this will lead to an increased legal mobility of refugees in Europe, to less irregular secondary movement and will contribute to an enriching living together between refugee and local population.
