Project Summary
10% of the students enrolled in vocational high schools in our country are students who were diagnosed at previous education levels and have learning difficulties.Due to the socio-cultural and economic structure of the environment we live in, schools are the only learning environments for these students who are behind their peers in terms of psychosocial and cognitive development characteristics and many features. At the same time, the fact that these students, who come from families with low economic levels, cannot have any social opportunities other than schools, increases the responsibility of the schools one more time.Despite the completeness of the legal regulations regarding the education of our students with learning difficulties, there are serious problems in the practices in schools. The fact that our vocational education personnel cannot reach the resources prepared with current methods and techniques that can be used in the education of these students is insufficient in achieving the basic goals of education, such as providing vocational competence to students with learning difficulties. This situation necessitates our teachers to constantly improve their knowledge and skills with their own efforts. In order to plan and maintain a quality education process for these students, there is a need to develop the competencies of vocational education personnel in this field. With this project, which was carried out on the basis of teamwork and cooperative learning method with 7 schools from 6 different countries and a total of 126 participants, contribution was made to the development of vocational qualifications of vocational education personnel working in departments such as Public Relations, Marketing,Office Management, Logistics, Tourism, which train intermediate staff for the service sector. With this being the main purpose of the project, the expected results for our teachers who are project participants as a result of the successful realization of this project are as follows:Preparing an effective and functional individualized education plan for each of the students with learning difficulties studying in departments which train intermediate staff for the service sector; To analyze the professional needs of students correctly; to know and effectively apply methods and techniques that can be used in/out of the classroom;Realizing effective time management in classroom practices of students with learning difficulties;Be able to plan individual studies for students with learning difficulties;Manage the skills training of students with learning difficulties in accordance with the individual differences and characteristics of the students; To create learning environments where students with learning difficulties will feel safe. The outputs of this project have an important place in transforming our teachers, who think that one of the most important issues to focus on in education, is that the most needy receive the best education, not only transferring knowledge, but also developing creative solutions to the problems they experience as a guide. Evaluating the teaching methods applied for these students in different countries in a common pool, with educators with different experiences, contributed to the development of the vocational education programs applied to these students in these institutions. In order for the project to achieve its determined goals, 4 LTTs lasting 5 days were planned. Participants in these LTTs designed educational materials to be used in the education processes of students with learning difficulties who study in departments train intermediate staff for the service sector.A total of 189 activities were designed for 20 gains in Vocational Development Courses. These prepared educational contents were included in the education process of students with special needs, first in the project partner institutions and then in the schools in the region. These designed training materials were turned into a book at the end of the project and distributed to institutions and organizations related to vocational education. In addition, the project activities and outputs were published on the project website, on the partner schools’ own websites, on social media (facebook), and in school magazines and made available to all concerned. The training materials prepared within the scope of the project were shared in the Education Information Network (EBA) of the Ministry of National Education of the Republic of Turkey after being examined and evaluated in detail and delivered to the Vocational and Technical Education Directorate of the Ministry of National Education for review. In addition, the prepared book was sent to all vocational high schools in Turkey in pdf format via e-mail.Studies to be used as a source in the “Vocational Academy” studies planned by the İzmir Provincial National Directorate for vocational high schools across the province are planned.
