Project Summary
One of the priorities of the European community is to stimulate a cultural and language diversity.Nowadays communication between people from different cultures, from various parts of the continent and even the world is a reality and it affects people of all ages. From a very early age students face the necessity of being engaged in various activities in order to exchange ideas and information but a reasonable proficiency of at least one foreign language is often a prerequisite for effective communication. Thus, one of the most important challenges foreign language learning and teaching faces today is to ensure that students will be prepared in class to communicate freely in a foreign language environment. It involves not only acquiring new vocabulary and various grammar structures but application of the communicative language teaching approach that has been internationally recognized as a fundamental prerequisite for mastering a foreign language.
Through the implementation of the project “A Pocket Teen Traveller’s Guide to European culture” we will seek to apply new teaching approach using the opportunities of new technology to make foreign language teaching more dynamic and interesting and to motivate and engage students more actively in the learning process.
The main objectives of the projects are as follows:
-to motivate and encourage students from partner schools to communicate in a foreign language (Spanish or English);
-to improve their teamwork skills and enhance learning by doing;
-to improve their ICT skills;
-to provide equal opportunity to all students to participate in the project in accordance to their abilities so that they can show initiative and responsibility;
-students and teachers together to get to know European culture and traditions.
Students aged 15-18 from Bulgaria, Spain, Portugal, Germany, Poland and Italy will be involved in the project. They will be divided into international teams- a team that will gather information about the sights in their hometowns/ countries, a team that shall consist of translators into Spanish and English and a team of IT specialist.
We are confident that the implementation of the project activities and the creation of an Travel Guide to European culture will enable our students to get to know European culture better and to improve their foreign language competencies and digital skills.
International events and meetings will increase the interest towards different cultures, it will help form a feeling for a European identity and global citizenship, it will create new friendships and professional contacts and it will provoke young people to actively take part in their school life. The implementation of new methods and technologies will make a good environment for students to develop new skills and capabilities.
At the end of the project there will be a starting point not only for students, who will gain knowledge and skills that give them a possibility to actively and responsibly plan their future, but also for teachers, who will be motivated to improve their own professional qualifications. International cooperation, will change the standard language teaching in our schools.
