Project Summary
Context:
This project was set within the framework of the objectives established by the European Comission Erasmus+ Program: international dimension, multilingualism, equity and inclusion in the field of education, as well as the priorities supporting schools to tackle early school leaving (ESL) and disadvantage, social inclusion and promoting the acquisition of skills and competences. As a tool to achieve the program objectives, we had a strategic school transnational partnership between Tibble Gymnasium in Täby (Sweden) and IES Nosa Señora dos Ollos Grandes in Lugo (Spain).
Both schools are experienced in co-existence issues inside the school, but, with new technologies and social media radically changing the way we interact and behave, we wanted to put new strategies to work, characterized by a proactive approach involving student participation. We felt it important to empower the students to deal with and solve their own conflicts, making them aware of the problems and risks that their attitude and behavior might entail, and providing them with the tools and guidance needed to avoid conflicts and live in harmony within the educational community and in society.
Objectives:
The main objectives were to investigate and identify the various ways our students interact with each other in school and outside, and address the difficulties that follow. We aimed at developing guiding rules exercises to improve our students’ social skills when interacting with classmates and staff in school and online, so as to improve the school working environment. A second objective was to address the issues of gender equality and sexual harassment and educate them on these subjects to prepare them for the future. Overall we worked with the prevention of bullying, sexual harassment and discrimination.
Participants:
To achieve the proposed objectives, this project carried out two kinds of mobilities:
1. 4 long-term mobility of in total 15 students 15-18 years old, on a reciprocal basis and within the frame of a strategic school partnership between Tibble Gymnasium in Täby (Sweden) and IES Nosa Señora dos Ollos Grandes in Lugo (Spain). Said action was carried out from 1) 11 October to 11 December in 2017 ( 4 Spanish students at Tibble Gymnasium); 2) from 7 January to 7 March in 2018 (4 Swedish students at IES Nosa Señora dos Ollos Grandes); 3) from 6 October to 6 December in 2018 (4 Spansh students at Tibble Gymnasium); 4) from 7 January to 9 March in 2019 (3 Swedish students at IES Nosa Señora dos Ollos Grandes.)
2. 4 short-term mobility of in total 32 students 15-18 years old, It was a reciprocal exchange within the same strategic school association between Tibble Gymnasium in Täby (Sweden) and IES Nosa Señora dos Ollos Grandes in Lugo (Spain). The four mobilities were: 1) from 8 April to 14 April in 2018 (9 Swedish students at IES Nosa Señora dos Ollos Grandes); 2) from 2 May to 8 May in 2018 (9 Spanish students at Tibble Gymnasium); 3) from 6 April to 12 April in 2019 (7 Swedish students at IES Nosa Señora dos Ollos Grandes); 4) from 3 May to 9 May in 2019 (7 Spanish students at Tibble Gymnasium).
Activities:
Long-term mobility: During the mobility, the students attended classes in the subjects that both schools considered feasible and appropriate. In accordance with and with the support of the staff in Lugo and Täby, the students studied the remaining subjects using ICT as a means of communication and support. They investigated and documented enquiries about co-existence in their host school. This and any complementary activities were documented and confirmed in the students’ individual Learning Agreements. The mobility was attested by a diploma and certificates were issued for foreign language classes. These accomplishments will be or have been included in the students’ Europass Curriculum Vitae, their language passport and their Mobility Document. The participation in the project has been or will be documented in their leaving certificate.
Short-term mobility:
The objective of this action was to investigate co-existence in the schools. They received training on co-existence related issues, they developed a prevention campaign, they elaborated videos to improve co-existence within and outside school, they designed a conflict prevention campaign, that was exhibited in Lugo, they discussed the results of reports on co-existance
Results, Impact and Long-term benefits:
The result of this project was that with the activities and the campaign our students gained a broader insight into the various aspects of co-existence, social interaction. They learnt from the project work and from working and living with people from another country and culture. Participating in a project like this one helps the student to grow, to learn more about themselves and their own culture as well as that of other people. What they learn during the project, they will carry with them in the future, inside and outside of school.
