Project Summary
The project aims to make students become “active European citizen” in our digital environment to promote their international openness, literacy skills and the 21st Century skills “collaborate, the use of ITC (Information and Communication Technologies)”. Indeed, we think that literacy is one of the basic skills in order to express oneself, communicate and understand different cultures. Because technology has increased the complexity of literate environments, the 21st century demands that a literate person possesses many literacy skills.
4 European schools from France, Estonia, Spain and Greece have exchanged and disseminated pedagogies and practices in order to improve pupils’ literacy skills in using digital tools and collaboration. About 25 teachers and 400 pupils from 5 to 11 years have been intensively involved in the project. In addition, it has developed European teachers and students’ citizenship skills in involving them in eTwinning projects.
All schools have contributed in different areas of expertise to the project. Thus, this project has promoted good practices and new teaching methods such as the use of ITC to enhance learning process, teaching reading strategies method, the FCL method (Future Classroom Lab) for the 21st century skills, project-based learning approach or CLIL method (Content and Language Integrated Learning) for some eTwinning project activities.
During the teachers ’mobilities, after a theoretical presentation of the different methods and jobshadowings, teachers have exchanged and built together some pedagogical scenarios to promote target skills and then experiment them in the eTwinning projects and in their classes as well.
At the end of the project, an eBook have been published with all these pedagogical scenarios. The ultimate goal is to renew the teaching methods and to develop the quality of teaching, especially in the priority school fields such as literacy and the use of ITC. So, the results of the projects has been shared with all teachers in the participating schools and partly be integrated in the curriculums of the involved schools.
Students have also produced a lot of concrete results in their eTwinning projects. All the main activities of this projects have promoted the target skills. For example, they have published a story written with several hands, an emagazine about the culture of the partners countries and they have played dramas around the European tales shared. All the schools ‘communities have published articles about this project and have organized events such as an exhibition around the project or running a workshop during the ErasmusDay. Finally, all the details of eTwinning projects activities and results are available in the Twinspaces of the two eTwinning projects.
Thus, eTwinning projects and staff training have contributed to develop the international opening and have provided the schools with greater visibility and prestige in the local area.
At the end of the project, 3 schools wanted to continue the European Erasmus + partnerships, some even wanted to build a new partnership together by continuing their exchanges around sciences and mathematics and by collaborating on a new Erasmus + project.
