Project Summary
The project entitled: “I.C.O.N.S. “Understanding (InterCultural Opening through Nature and Sports)” is run by a Greek and a Liechtenstein school and the two schools participate in the exchange project with very heterogeneous groups including SEN pupils at the age of about 13 years.
The task of this cooperation is to teach the approximately 65 pupils (SuS) at 2 outdoor camps and to introduce them to various learning goals in different outdoor activities and workshops.
On the two encounters in the mountains of Malbun (Liechtenstein) and the traditional youth camp at the foot of Mount Pelion (Greece) on the Mediterranean coast of Volos we will set objectives in the areas of social inclusion, developing important skills and abilities, such as the English language and the understanding of our European cultural heritage.
During the entire project, the pupils are also working in internationally mixed working groups via ICT and eTwinning on accompanying tasks and presentations. They are supported with the CLIL method.
The project also promotes the health awareness of pupils and the appreciation of our environment and grassroots- outdoor sports as workshops take place in this segment. In this scenery of encounters there is increased intrinsic motivation among the pupils, which is extremely conducive to learning. The students develop their social skills and tolerance towards other people and cultures by sharing the tasks and challenges they face. In the field of the additional online cooperation, the theme: “Greece as the cradle of our European democracy” sets the starting point for a real awareness and development of a contemporary understanding of our shared cultural heritage.
The participating institutions will include the newly developed learning and workshop situations, after evaluating their didactic and educational content, into their future teaching design. Thus, they enrich sustainably the future of their schools. The project will be funded by the EU Erasmus + fund, partially with our own school budget and possibly as well through a private Greek foundation.
