Project Summary

Protection from noise and provision of the comfort of life and work for society is presently one of the most significant challenges of our civilization. Noise is one of the most widely and most frequently experienced problems in the industrial working environment.

The idea of implementing new e-learning and teaching methods originated from the need to enhance practical industrial acoustic knowledge. The main purpose of the courseware is to innovatively fill the gap in recent VET education programs and to increase specialists’ awareness about the role acoustic comfort plays in the life of human beings.
It is assumed that the course will allow to:
– acquire knowledge and skills in industrial acoustics,
– increase consciousness of engineers concerning the role of acoustics and acoustic comfort,
– develop professional knowledge and extend possibilities of professional development.

Major recipients of acoustic courses are engineers of various specializations (EHS specialization, mechanical, process, and environmental engineering) who use acoustic expertise in their daily work and whose knowledge was not acquired on a satisfactory manner during their studies. The construction of training lets engineers not only work independently and bring their skills in industrial acoustics to perfection, but also it delivers a modern tool for constant professional improvement of teachers, trainers, and educational mentors at a workplace.

The implemented project is not a single event, but a big part of the vast strategy aiming at extending and strengthening knowledge on acoustics, supporting the development of innovative teaching methods based on the attractive and innovative transfer of content, services, the methodology of teaching and practices on a domestic and international level.

The result of the project is an innovative method of learning and teaching that promotes open and modern education with the use of ICTs. Engineering knowledge is usually presented in a written form, with formulas, technical drawings. Presenting it in a new, visually attractive form will surely interest and attract engineers. The visualization of phenomena, mechanisms of generating noise, acoustic solutions with the use of virtual reality will help to better understand the issues discussed and easily convert acquired knowledge into specific situations and problems present in an engineer’s work. The development of VR technology up to date mainly concerns the entertainment industry and is used for movie documentation (nature documentaries, commentaries). Results of this project constitute an example of synergy between initiatives undertaken in research and innovation as well as promoting the use of new technologies to transfer scientific and engineering knowledge. Acoustics Course for Industry (ACI) consists of few modules: Noise, Impact of noise on humans, Environmental and occupational noise, and Noise management. Educational materials include case studies, sound samples, interactive content, and VR-360 videos. Effects can be watched on a computer or using the VR headset.

The course is placed on the platform designed and developed by KFB Acoustics- ACOUSTIC COURSEWARE PLATFORM with results of other educational projects. Platform is supported by European Universities, companies, societies. ACI web: https://aci.acoucou.org/
