Project Summary

World’s organisations but also European researches highlight that the average life expectancy is constantly growing and in 2030 it will be extended to 90 years. At the same time they indicate a high share of health problems in the mortality rate. It is important to create conditions conducive to maintaining the highest possible quality of people lives, especially seniors. Based on statistics, surveys, observations and interviews partners prepared the project which main aim was to enrich the standards of care services for the elderly by developing recommendations for effective methods of motivating older people to lead an active and healthy lifestyle. Project focused on education of people taking care of seniors to provide them with the best working methods but also on exchanging of knowledge and experience in the field of activation and implementation of pro-health attitudes among seniors.

Direct participants of the project were 24 people: educators (sport trainers, teachers, social workers, city hall employees, nutritionists) that work with seniors on a daily basis and management team of each partner organisation. Managers (Project managers, Financial managers, Administration staff and seniors’ policy coordinators) – 12 people – who had great knowledge in management international projects as well as in comprehensive care of seniors. The final, indirect, group were local steakholders and seniors aged over 60 who had opportunity to take part in project activities, to share their wide knowledge and experiences but first of all benefited from the results of the project.

Main activities of the project were:
– 3 transnational project meetings,
– 15 meetings of Local Advisory Committees (3 meetings organised by each partner) to establish new contacts with representatives of the seniors’ community and to get to know opinions and needs of seniors,
– Good practice guide (ENG, PL, PT, SE, RO, SL) – recommendations in the field of seniors’ care that include chapters such as: physical activity, nutrition, volunteering, education, memory training and best practices that were implemented in 5 countries engaged in the project. The guide focused on the most important aspects of seniors’ lives and includes advices, tips and proper habits,
– Instructional videos about communication with seniors and physical activity,
– Short-term joint staff training event for employees to develop their competences in work with seniors,
– Information, promotion and dissemination of activities and results of the project.

Partners completed all activities pre-set in the application. They achieved all objectives pre-set and results of the project with reference to key target groups. Partners achieved results, among others: creating good practice guide, recording instructional video, receving EUROPASS certificates, establishing transnational cooperation, acquisition of new skills in the field of seniors’ care by employees, increase of professional competences of employees, increase of language competences, acquisition of communication skills, social inclusion of seniors, increasing the mobility of employees, increase of knowledge and experience of the management team, raising the quality of the offer for seniors.

The project had a significant impact on participants, target groups, as well as institutions directly involved into project and those active in the environment of seniors at local, regional, national and international level. This impact is visible primarily in access to knowledge, qualified educators and managers who implemented developed methods of working with seniors. All other stakeholders were able to use the good practice guide and instructional videos but also exchange experience to enrich working skills and then spread the project’s results. Thanks to such impact of the project the staff of institutions that operate in the field of seniors gained new competences and improved the quality of work. Seniors understood the essence of leading a healthy lifestyle, joining the social life but above all they felt deeper support and understanding from the people around them. This will contribute greatly to the healthy aging and it will, hopefully, encourage seniors to stay involved in healthy style of life. All participating organizations significantly improved the quality of work with elderly, acquired new knowledge and experience but also established transnational cooperation, and all this will have a major impact on the quality and diversity of programs that they will offer to older people in the future. Transnational partnership contributed also to the promotion of partners’ institutions but above all to promote cities, regions and countries that may have an international presence.
