Project Summary
The project drew the attention of the students, staff and local communities of the participating countries to the importance of sport and proper dietary habits. The project ‘Y.E.A.H” educated students on healthy lifestyle choices. It was addressed to the whole school communities. The project covered two main areas; sports and healthy eating. The first year of the project concentrated on the topic of Sports. Students were involved in making presentations on traditional sports, playground and lesser-known games and activities as well as notable sports figures. Students also developed a Fair Play Code with a set of rules regulating supporters and players’ conduct. The second year the partnership concentrated on the topic of ‘Healthy Eating’ and it provided pupils with an insight into traditional meals and eating habits with a focus on ‘healthy’ and ‘inappropriate’ food choices. Students prepared and carried on an advertising campaigns promoting an active and fulfilling lifestyle as well as creating their own cookbooks with simple traditional recipes.
The project gave the students the opportunity to develop their knowledge about different cultures through the topic ‘sports’. The project educated the pupils in how to be effective communicators, respectful of different languages and cultures, and to have a greater understanding of how the world works together. It also developed learners’ understanding of sport and how sporting values such as fair play, equality, respect, cooperation and communication would assist them in our goal to help them become participating, knowledgeable and understanding European citizens. The students increased their awareness of their own health and choices in terms of a healthy diet and active lifestyle. The realization and development of the project helped to gain a sound understanding of different cultures and a better knowledge of a variety of languages, which is such a valuable tool in the ever developing world that we live in. The project provided an opportunity to establish real and meaningful relationships with partner schools. Teaching staff was also able to experience different teaching methods used in other countries. Thanks to international cooperation students were given a variety of experiences that will help them to be more open minded. They are now more eager to overcome any intolerance towards people from different cultures and countries.
