Project Summary

Both in Europe and in Turkey, math literacy was below the mark.It was seen that math was the first lesson in which students had great difficulty in national and international exams.The success rate of the last a few years had been examined. It was the “Mathematics” lesson which had the lowest level. According to the researches and pools, we determined that students didn’t have an ability of mathematical thinking,had the lack of motivation,memorized the mathematical sentences,didn’t use the knowledge,didn’t relate the mathematics and the daily life,were afraid of the mathematics,thought that mathematic lesson was boring.Parents said that;students had difficulty in doing maths homeworks and were unwilling to do their math homeworks.The failure in maths lesson effected the other national exams,too.So we aimed to raise the literacy in math;to encourage the creativity and innovativeness in every stage of education,to share the good practices,to use the ICT strategically, to encourage the problem based learning, to relate the math and daily life via dramatization and games; to strengthen the understanding of education and tranining which contains interdisciplinary approaches; to realize the relationship among math, art and esthetics; to raise the rate of learning foeign language in addition to their mother tongue.To realise all these aims we planned to do these activities and did:Created an Erasmus web page,did the mobilities,recorded videos of in-class and outclass math games,published a project newspaper,made a project corner,visited the musuem of math,attended and hold workshops,shared the good practices and put into practice them in our schools,dissemineted and still disseminating the results of our project,published our project in Twinspace,hold a math festival in May 2019,hold an exhibition of math stamps,made a booklet about the anectodes of math,examined the geometrical objects in historical buildings to explain the relationship between math and art by visiting the cultural heritage areas like Ephesus,Agora and Virgin Marry,prepared a play about teaching math using creative drama,wrote articles about our project activities and our project content in local and national newspapers,made interviews about our project with local and national press,prepared and published an e-book about math games using Joomag in national languages and in English,exhibited the outputs which created by our students using web tools,prepared the project interim report.We had higher proficiency in foreign languages,got more understanding and responsiveness in social, linguistic and cultural richness,increased Math literacy and addressed under achievement,got more motivation and satisfaction in daily life,had a better learning performance,put the good practices and new methods in education and training,created a dynamic and professional environment,raised awareness of European Project and European value,got a higher motivation to learn the lives of famous mathematicians and their studies,left an impression on policy makers,related the daily life and the math,the literacy in math raised,ICT based technologies were used more integrated,innovative learning outputs were stimulated,language proficiency was provided,more opportunities in career development were provided,positive impact on decission makers were provided, cross border cooperation of public managemant was provided.Aproximately 14000 persons (all the staff of our and our partners’ school, school staff of our neighbourhood area,members of the local community,young people,experts,policy makers and other skateholders) were the target of these activities and results by the project.
