Project Summary

The development of sport in the context of sport at school is an educational policy issue. Sport at school helps to promote ethical, educational and humanistic values of sport. It plays a key role in young people’s access to sport and gives meaning to “living together”.
It is fully involved in the health and the preservation of the physical integrity of students. It is a privileged asset for equal opportunities and for the citizen training of young people.

Cooperation in innovation and the exchange of best practices: 2018 KA2
The health and preservation of the physical integrity of students. It is a privileged asset for equal opportunities and for the citizen training of young people.

At the same time, the ability of the European Union (EU) to successfully meet the challenges of competitiveness and growth depends particularly on the dynamism of entrepreneurship.
Entrepreneurship, practiced in a school setting, awakens young people’s desire to learn, increases their motivation and encourages school perseverance.

Faced with these pedagogical and educational challenges, schools in 6 European cities, including two twin cities, decided to unite as part of a strategic Erasmus partnership.

We worked together for 30 months on the theme of sport and Olympism.
2,352 students and 159 teachers participated in the project. Several sports associations and clubs were involved in this partnership.
In accordance with the plan for the application, the six themes related to sport were implemented.

Activities in the last quarter, scheduled from March to June 2020, were disrupted by the health crisis.
The meetings, which were postponed in Autumn 2020, in the hope of exiting the crisis, finally took place, via digital platforms.
All the activities were carried out well.

Each quarter a set of activities related to a project theme were developed;

1.The Olympic Games: common values between the OG and the EU.
2. Paralympic Games and sports for disabled.
3. Our national ball sports: our national identity.
4. Sport is good for your health!
5. The rule of the game and the role of referees.
6. Our regional sports: our local heritage.

Before the health crisis, sports news, European championships and World Cup championships had an impact on young people.
It is within the framework of this dynamic that our teaching teams were listed.
They gave an immediate boost to sport, enabling students to become more actors than spectators, actors in their lives and their learning.

Our project developed sports practice among young people and mobilized educational communities around the values of citizens and sports. It was also a great opportunity to introduce young Europeans to the history of Olympism and to follow the preparations for the 2020 Summer Games postponed until 2021.

As part of the Paris 2024 bid to host the future Olympic and Paralympic Games, the French school of this partnership coordinated the project and obtained the GENERATION 2024 label, issued by the academic authorities. The coordinator regularly involved the partners in the Olympic and Paralympic Weeks organized in France by the Ministry of National Education.

Each year, each country introduced the other partners to a new sport. A top athlete from the chosen sport was invited to sponsor the establishment. In each school, the discipline was taught first. Local sports associations and Olympic committees were solicited for human resources, equipment and advice.

The students were the first actors of this project, they made video presentations and tutorials to explain to all their European comrades the rules of the game of these local or national sports.
They presented their history and encouraged their fellow ambassadors to want to play the sport too.

Each action was a source of learning and enabled students to acquire the knowledge, abilities and attitudes of the common foundation. Reading and writing, numeracy and basic skills in mathematics, science, geography and history served the project. Other key competences (defined by Parliament or the European Council) such as foreign language communication and digital competence have been developed and assessed by certification in the implementation of the project.

The professional profile of the staff has been strengthened; teachers introduced new methods and used new tools to respond to the transition called the “Rethink Education Strategy.”
Each educational team shared their best practice.
Each partner institution saw its International openness strengthen and its European identity developed; their branding evolved positively and the number of pupils at these establishments is on the rise.
