Project Summary
In this fast-changing world of skills and work requirements it is important that schools and students constantly reinforce the development of key competencies to best provide transferable future skills that will stand the test of time and provide lifelong competencies that will compliment the future workplace. In addition to this, the very environment in which we live is changing and there is a strong requirement to develop these future skills alongside a deeper understanding and awareness of skills in the fields of climate action. Skills, such as problem solving, critical thinking, ability to cooperate, creativity, computational thinking, self-regulation are more essential than ever before in our quickly changing society.
The project Partners came together using the online resource etwinning where they met sharing the common need to develop a project based on the idea of 21st century skills and environmental awareness. Our schools have identified the need for international collaboration in order to learn and better equip our students, schools and communities to better deal with this new European situation in relation to the development of future skills while creating a higher awareness of our changing environment.
Our project will take two years and involve 5 partner countries from Finland, Estonia, Germany, Netherlands, and Iceland. Over this time the partners will take part in 5 learning teaching and training activities which will be organized in local communities. During each of these learning teaching and training activities the project will analyze key topics related to 21st century skills with separate topics for teachers and students. The council’s recommendations On key competencies for lifelong learning was used as a source of information in deciding the topics.
The topics for our students 21st century skills relate to:
Environmental responsibility
Digital and Technological Fluency
Critical thinking, problem solving
Creativity and innovation
Personal management and well being
With our teachers working on 21st century in teaching related to:
critical thinking
creativity
STEM related approaches
communication
collaboration
In line with students themselves learning and analyzing the future 21st century skills and competencies needed, the project is also motivated to provide teachers the opportunity to upscale their knowledge of which skills are required in future working life related to themselves and their students. Teachers will be facilitated in developing innovative teaching practices and promote competence orientated teaching in order to strengthen and develop their personal skills.
The project aims to provide a platform for cooperation and provide students with the opportunity to be a part of an international project which will in turn lead to an increase in their motivation, participation in school life and provide them practical transversal skills which can aid them in their future working life.
The project will empower students to become active and resourceful in the analysis of which 21st century skills apply to them and how to integrate these skills with a heightened awareness of climate change.
