Project Summary

A successful Biotech Entrepreneur has to acquire and demonstrate significant combinations of technical, commercial and operational skills; the acquisitions start in school and continue all life long, because Biotech is a “living” science, in a permanent change. This is why the project should take an interdisciplinary approach. The General Objective of the proposal was to decrease the unemployment of European higher education graduates by increasing the level of successful Biotechnology graduates following an entrepreneurial pathway. Specific objectives have been set up and achieved : (1). Developing innovation in Biotech higher education towards entrepreneurship by delivering five innovative intellectual outputs to be used by Biotech and Economics HE teachers and students in the educational process. (2). Development of entrepreneurial culture and skills of at least 220 Biotech and Economics students involved directly in the project activities by delivering two educational materials and one training program. (3). Enlarge the inter-academic and academia-business cooperation in the field of Biotechnology by the involvement of at least four academic Biotech providers, one Economic university and at least 12 Biotech stakeholders. In the consortium have been involved 6 partners: 4 universities providing Biotechnology education, one university providing Economics and IT education and a Biotech professional Association (NGO) with relevant Biotech business connections. The target groups included two main categories: higher education teachers and Master/PhD students mainly from the field of Biotechnology, as well as from the field of Economics. The following activities were implemented: (A1) Project management; (A2) Visibility and Dissemination; (A3) Quality Assurance (Monitoring and Evaluation); (M1-M4) Transnational Project Meetings; (O1-O5) development of Intellectual Outputs; five OIs were developed during the project implementation: O1 – ” Success stories in European Biotech Entrepreneurship ” (on-line page with text and images, and video-testimonials); O2 – ” European Biotech Entrepreneur Profile through entrepreneurs eyes (text); O3 – Course Module in Biotechnology & Entrepreneurship and associated training materials; O4 – “Handbook of Entrepreneurship in Biotechnology- an European perspective” delivered in digital and printed format; O5 – E-platform for Biotech Start-up simulation. (E1-E4) MULTIPLICATION EVENTS. In each partner country was organized one multiplication event for all five OIs, which have targeted Biotech and Economic HE students and professors and other stakeholders. C1- C2 (TRAINING ACTIVITIES). Two training activities were delivered. In the first implementation year was delivered C1 – a blended mobility of staff with Biotech& Economic HE professors (2/partner). In the second implementation year was organized a Summer School for Biotech and Economy Master and PhD students in Bucharest to simulate the start-up of a Biotech Enterprise (22 students in total). The impact targeted short and medium/long terms indicators affecting Biotech and Economics higher education, Biotech business and other Biotech stakeholders, partner organisations and general public.
