Project Summary
Our project is aimed at helping teachers and pupils enrich their cultural understanding and language skills. There will be an exchange of new and interactive teaching methods, ways to improve the linguistic skills of pupils and an introduction to the cultural and linguistic diversity of Europe. The partnership will give current and future language teachers and learners the opportunity to work together, regardless of age, nationality, occupation or social status. It will include boys and girls, teachers and parents from both partner schools. Through our co-operation the children will have the opportunity to learn more about the ways in which culture and language combine and get the chance to experience first hand a variety of activities from their partner school.
The planned activities will be integrated into the curriculum to ensure a meaningful exchange and experience for the visiting staff and pupils. Job shadowing, team teaching, shared planning and resource sharing will encourage the evaluation of current methods and sharing of best practice. The learning from these activities will then cascade back to other staff and be implemented in the classroom while compiling with with the conditions of the educational systems in the respective countries. The pupil exchanges will give the children real life outcomes for their language learning. Furthermore, they will help to create a positive attitude among pupils, parents and staff with regard to European culture and language, while retaining their national identity and values.
It is hoped that the project will enhance and enrich language learning and cross cultural understanding in the partnership schools. Teachers and pupils will benefit from having real life outcomes and using realia to enhance the authenticity of language learning. We hope that this will lead to strong friendships between staff, pupils and parents in both schools so that going forward teaching methods and resources can continue to be evaluated and best practice shared. We would like this to be the foundation for a long term pupil exchange program between the two schools so that future generations of staff and pupils can gain a love of language learning and learn from each other’s cultures.
