Project Summary

Most projects are born to give an answer to a specific problem and so was ours that “PerhAPPs? We can help !. Our three high schools of this association fight against the same problems: bullying and early school leaving. Consequently, the main challenge of our project is to find the most suitable solution to face them.

The most important elements of our project are teachers involved in the project and students because they will be the executors of the project. Teaching staff is a group of twenty-two professors belong to different departments, Mathematics, Music, Art, English, Technology, Latin, … that means that our project is open to any discipline. As concern as students, they are studying levels of 1st and 2nd E.S.O. (Grades 7 and 8 in Belgium and Norway respectively) and they have been chosen to enjoy our project because the biggest number of cases of bullying and early school dropout are detected inside these levels . A group of students of 2nd E.S.O. will participate in the learning, teaching and training activities. One hudred and nine students (thirty-six for each center) divided into two halves for the two years of our project.

We have decided to make changes in our teaching practice to achieve the goal of our project, . We are going to develop a set of activities with a methodology based on cooperative work with heterogeneous groups to improve the integration of our students and in aconsequence of this fact, we would be fighting against bullying. We have also thought about the use of new technologies as a way to make our work as innovative work, more attractive and motivating for students who are at risk to drop out the school.

Once we have finished our project we hope: 1. The disappearance of bullying. 2. The decrease of the number of early school leaving cases. 3. And the increase of the average of the marks of our students as a result of our change in our work methodology.

With our project, not only do we want to be an answer in our cities for those students who feel discriminated, demotivated and lost within the educational system for any reason, but also we would like to be an example for other high schools with the same problems, we would like they find in our project a perfect help to solve their situation. It would be an amazing experience to share our project with them.

Finally, we are convinced that the benefits of our project will remain forever, once we have found the “formula” to improve the learning process for our students, we only have to progress step by step , that is, we have to foster the use of new technologies to make more innovative and attractive our teaching way and we have to encourage the cooperative work as a fundamental tool in the integration of our students.
