Project Summary
Teacher leadership is a very important concept. The unprecedented demands on schools today require leadership at every level. Therefore, the role of a teacher leader is not only to be a leader among teachers, but also to be a leader of students (pupils). School leadership is the process of seeking, supporting and directing the talents and energies of other teachers, students and parents to achieve common educational goals. In addition, teacher-leaders are referred to as ‘change agents’ / trendsetters.
Researchers suggest that teachers should see themselves as creators rather than objects of change. In many societies around the world, teachers are seen as individuals who can help bring about positive change in people’s lives.
Teacher-creators of change need to be entrepreneurs, they need to be focused on the collaborative development of shared knowledge in learning communities and they need to master systems thinking in order to transform new knowledge into effective teaching strategies and implement them in the school curriculum.
The project activities and as well as the project results are primarily addressed to two main target groups:
1.Teachers in schools and school management.
This group are the direct users of the results and products of our project.
2.Other users of the results and products of our project: teachers trainers and teacher training centres (institutions) who will organise trainings for teachers using the materials prepared in our project.
The benefits for the school environment from the implemented project:
1.To provide new knowledge to those involved in our project activities or to deepen their knowledge of teacher leadership and the teacher-leader model.
2.Increased interest in teacher leadership and the teacher-leader model among school staff and various educational institutions.
3.To change the attitude of educational decision makers towards teacher leadership and teacher-leader model.
4.To provide new skills to those involved in our project activities.
For this purpose the international partnership group prepared the following tools:
1.Model / Concept of Teacher as Leader – described in Intellectual Output 1: Handbook: ‘Teacher as Leader Model’;
2.Training Kit – Intellectual Output No. 3.
and in addition
1.Standards for Teacher-Leaders Intellectual Output 2,
2.E-learning course,
3.Videotraining.
