Project Summary
“Follow foot prints of culture” is designed to support students aged 12-14 from 4 EU schools to aquire and develop the 21st century competences in School Outreach and aims to be innovative in terms of using ICT tools in the educational process in foreign languages. It will offer students the opportunity to have hands-on experience with peers from Poland, Turkey, Slovenia and Sweden.
Heritage links us to our past. We can’t be separated from our history and knowing it will guide us and future generations to promote our culture keeping Europe together for/by youth. The activites will encourage students to embrace their own culture, promote its values while keeping an open mind about other EU cultures and think why each of us is responsible in bringing his contribution in preserving and protecting the common EU cultural heritage.
The project team is aware that the school curricula should be adapted according the students’ and society’s demands, this is why ICT is one of the key aspects we will use for our project aiming to focus on intervention in terms of keeping students interested in learning. The aim of the project is to foster innovation and experimentation in learning about EU culture and nearby UNESCO sites among 4 EU schools during a 2 year project.
The objectives we would like to achieve are:
O1: increase responsibility among 100 students per country from 4 EU schools in protecting and developing the European culture during September 2020-August 2022
O2: create safe intercultural dialogue for students, teachers and experts
O3: develop learning activities that integrate European cultural heritage/UNESCO heritage in education
O4: build an EU community of students and pedagogues
The project is an invitation for our students to dare to experiment, be innovative, outreaching and creative. The concrete results of our project are questionnaires, project logo, 4 presentations “Who are we?” – to introduce each other, travel guide, documentary and films on Youtube: Local crafts & cuisine – traditions, 1 Cooking e-Book, 1 EU Historical Festival, 1 picture dictionary – language, 1 digital graffiti wall – ART, 4 cultural games– entrepreneurship, 2 e-newsletters, 1 project webpage, 1 eTwinning project, a documentary and a collection of examples of Active Learning Activities that integrate the European cultural heritage/UNESCO in education.
The different groups that will take part in the project activities are 500 students aged between 12-14 years old, 200 teachers, 50 school staff (school counselors/ librarians/ accountants), 4 UNESCO pedagogues, 250 families and 150 representatives of the local communities/ City Hall/ Local Library/ local media, etc. The group of participants who will attend the mobilities are influenced by 40 teachers.
The activities will have both a formal and informal approach. The students will attend classes during the mobilities to experience how classes are in other EU countries. They will contribute to create the project’s tangible outcomes: documentary, videos, presentations, e-materials, picture dictionary. The activities will contribute to increase feelings of togetherness, wearing local costumes, presenting local traditions and becoming familiar with other European traditions and customs. The diversity of the activities will lead to achieve the project’s objectives because they are innovative, encourage collaborative work, outreach and active learning.
We plan 4 LTTAs meetings and have established objectives for each mobility. We will involve students in finding the their way to run the activities so that at the end of the mobility, all participants will feel that it was a meaningful experience. This is why before the meeting, the host organizer will send a questionnaire to see the expectations, fear and contributions of the participants. The results will help in creating an adequate programme for the meeting. Students’ behaviour will be monitored during the mobilities and there will be organized focus groups each 3 months so as students can share their feelings about the project. Monitoring is important so we can ensure a successful implementation of the project.
Considering how the project is designed and partners’ variety, we believe that the project will be a milestone in the long-term. Our project creates the space in which participants can see the connection between theory and practice and will get the feeling ofresponsiblity for outreach, creating materials. Involved teachers/experts believe we are able to inspire for a change and create connections and products that can change school life at local and international level.
Teachers, experts (UNESCO pedagogues) and students will feel the impact of project at a personal and professional level. Teachers will expand their teaching approach via outreach actions, use up-to-date methods and students will be more motivated to learn when they will discover how to use new technology for educational purposes.
